I have pondered the meaning of nursing professionalism. Generally, professionalism in nursing encompasses a wide range of thoughts, ideas, appearance and behaviors. Simply put, professionalism in nursing is a set of rules, work ethics, ideologies and dedication towards service to a community. At its core professionalism in nursing is an attitude of the nurses that keeps patients above any other external factors and being sincerely committed towards taking adequate care of the patient. I look to Florence Nightingale for the most inspiring definition. “Nursing is an art, and, if it is to be made an art, requires as exclusive a devotion, as hard a preparation, as any painter’s or sculptor’s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or cold marble, compared with having to do with the living body- the temple of God’s spirit? It is one of the fine Arts; I had almost said, the finest of the Fine Arts" ~ …show more content…
This improves the human being as well as the nursing practice. Therefore, within the context of this assignment what does the preceding discussion mean?
A professional nurse is not tardy. If this means a reorganization of activities to assure punctuality, it must be done. For example if one does not have a car, do not attempt to accomplish too many activities at different locations. Simply put, control what you can control. Make strategic choices.
A professional nurse is prepared with the supplies necessary for the job. This requires pre-planning. Pack supplies the night before, understanding the limitations of public transportation. Do not rush. This is how errors occur. Cool Calm planning will eliminate
