In Tim Burton films, the use of cinematic techniques helps the audience feel a sense of unease contrasted with a sense of comfort and safety. Burton uses techniques such as lighting, camera angles and shots and framing to depict and highlight different emotions throughout his films. Burton’s job working at Disney helped him develop a thing for comfort and safety due to the children’s stories and scripts he worked on at Disney. He also has an interest in peculiar objects and characters. When both of these things are combined and make one story, Burton changes feelings throughout his films and create an almost bipolar type theme.…

A camera, a director, an actor is all one needs to make a movie, that may be something the audience believes. There’s a science to this, camera angles, sound, and lighting/color that make up a movie. As a film director in Hollywood, Tim Burton must pay attention to these simple key factors that create his films. Tim Burton, a greatly respected film director, creates gothic, bittersweet films ranging from friendship to young love. As Burton inspired many, he himself was inspired by the author Edgar Allan Poe, whose grim side is reflected in his writing. He was also inspired by the American actor, Vincent Price, who played dark characters on screen since the early 1940s. The dark, unusual crazy, quirky characters and settings are reflected well…

One of my favorite narrative is a movie called The Hungry Games. In this narrative movie there is a lot of problems all build up onto one big problem, but there is only one solution to it all. There is a lot of action and adventure that happens in order to solve the characters problem. The main problem is in order to save the village that each character lives in they have to fight against each other, and win the fight. The way they are chosen is each child in the village name is put into a jar however many times they go out to buy something. Once there name is selected or drawn from the jar they have to get sent away where they are to fight other children from different villages. On the ride to the arena they are persuaded with food, nice…

When we think of hunger we all think of food, we never think of hunger as something else. In today’s world, many people suffer from hunger in the form of food, but food is not the only problem involving hunger. In Richard Wrights book “Black Boy” Richard, who is a young black boy, is faced with many different types of hunger, not only for food but also for things such as love, knowledge, education, or even engagement in social and political issues. Richard, in many instances, does physically need food to relieve his hunger, but comes to the conclusion that food isn’t as important as other problems in the world such as racism and segregation. Hunger is everywhere in the world and it doesn’t matter if your young or old, black or white, or man or woman, it attacks everyone in some shape or form.…

I recently read a novel by Suzanne Collins titled, The Hunger Games. What I recall most about this book is the magnificent emphasis put on food. Every single meal eaten by the characters was described in such great detail that you would think the author was a former culinary student. As the name persists, food is a significant issue in this book. It’s a luxury for people living in the districts and a commodity for the capital. People from the districts often died of starvation while people who lived in the capital pushed a button to summons a three course meal. The person from a district who won the Hunger Games was guaranteed the fortune of food and money for the rest of their lives. Wow, what a prize!…

The life of an artist stems from the originality of their art; however, sometimes the public does not understand or appreciate the art the artist dedicated wholeheartedly to. A Hunger Artist by Franz Kafka explored the ambition of an artist to achieve a feat no one had ever accomplished before, but instead of receiving admiration from the spectators the artist is faced with a cold response. The hunger artist used fasting as a form of artistic endeavor for his own liking, but the art is soon turned into a mode of entertainment just to please the public’s fascination, even though they do not appreciate the deeper meaning behind his art. Being the only one who could truly understand his art completely, the hunger artist is never satisfied and…

What is A Hunger Artist? Normally, I would make a lame joke and say that it’s an artist who is hungry. OK, well it sounded better in my head. It’s about a man, an artist who fasts in a cage. You can look at the story from the point of view of society. You can think about the story relationship to “hunger”, and you can rationalize why the Artist put himself through this whole absurd ordeal.…
