I think that this was an unfortunate thing that happened to this young boy and I wish that someone would have gotten him help before it was too late. I think that Jacob should have received a life sentence without parole because he chose to murder his mother and step-father and he was old enough to know right from wrong. I feel like he should’ve reached out and tried to get help at school. Jacob’s brother, Charles speculated that he thought his mother knew what was happening, so for Jacob to take her life without knowing if she was aware of the situation makes me lean more towards him deserving to be in jail. I know Jacob must have been angry and that because of his anger he killed them both, but I do not think Jacob had a reason to kill his mother, due to Charles statement resembling…

    Blackrobe Movie Review

‘Black Robe' is the story of a young Jesuit Priest from France who embarks on a religious journey to convert, to Christianity, the Aboriginal tribes of New France. Set primarily in Ontario during the mid 1630's, Father Lafargue travels from Quebec via the Ottawa River to the home of the Huron people in what is now referred to as the Simcoe Region of South Central Ontario. He is aided by a band of Algonquin-speaking people, numbering roughly 20 and a young Frenchman with aspirations of Priesthood in the motherland. Blackrobe offers an intriguing insight into the relationships between the French and the Aboriginals. That being said most of the background for the movie is taken from a massive archive of Jesuit texts which needs to be taken into consideration when objectively looking at the portrayal of the Aboriginals. Blackrobe is a fictional movie although for the most part it is historically accurate and has been accepted as such by many historians and Aboriginal people alike. When critically reviewing ‘Black Robe' it is important to look at the relationships between the two vastly different cultures and how they are represented. To a lesser extent it is important to look at the different Aboriginal tribes and how they not only interact with themselves, but with the French and Jesuits as well. The portrayal of the Europeans in the feature film ‘Black Robe' was one of social superiority in relation to the Aboriginal tribes, specifically the Algonquin and Iroquois and to a lesser extent the Huron. This does not, however, qualify Europeans as ‘good' and the Aboriginals as ‘bad' as that aspect of interpretation would better be left to moral philosophers and not historians or movie critics.…

This film directed by Ken Burns represents Jack Johnson through his choices and revelation that was a man of persecution, determination, and pride for his well being. He had persecution he suffered throughout his whole life especially during his career as a professional boxer. He had the determination to not only be the best but to resist the ways of common culture in the United State at that time period. Jack Johnson was a man who had great pride of who he was, where he came from, and what he stood for. This film shows how one man can stand out to be free when the rest are controlled by society. There was a quote in the movie that states “while blacks answered to whites, he (jack Johnson) battered them to the ground.” During his reign Jack Johnson would act the way he wanted, said whatever he wanted, and didn’t care what anyone thought beside himself. Jack Johnson specifically told reporters that if they should write anything down write that he was a man. From this we can see that one man can change the views of many. One man can give hope to a whole community. This one man can bring justice to a civilization to change the way blacks and whites viewed one another.…

Then I brushed my teeth and thought about Emma and I washed my face and thought about Emma. After that I went to my room and took the apple she’d given me out of my pocket and set it on the nightstand, and then, as if to reassure myself she still existed, I got out my phone and looked through the pictures of her I’d taken that afternoon.” I found this sweet of Jacob, but also kind of creepy. It’s sweet that he likes Emma so much that he thinks of her often. That this girl won’t leave his mind at all. However thinking about a girl that much is creepy that in a way it’s funny and most likely impossible. Thinking about someone since getting in the shower to when you’re going to sleep and nothing coming across your mind is impossible or in a way obsessive.…

Not only does one representing the new South and the other representing the old South, their characters is ironic because they both have very strong view points regarding African Americans. Despite Julian's liberated and intellectual view on race he is in actuality a very weak character because not only are his judgements base on stereotypes of African American he is also unable to communicate with them.
