Figuring Out The French Analysis
After reading chapter seven through ten of Figuring Out the French, what caught my attention the most was how French students are sorted into study tracks at early ages based on their perceived academic abilities. What I found even more startling about this was how being assigned to a shortened track is basically final and the decision is rarely reversed, often leaving students with only vocational qualifications. Compared to the American Education System, this sorting seems harsh and decided at far too young an age. Many American students do not become serious about their education until high school, so to sort students as young as eleven or twelve, seems rather bizarre. Furthermore, this system leaves little room for students to grow and

In the story, “The Stranger”, by Albert Camus, Meursault the protagonist, does not think like most people. When his neighbor Raymond questions his opinion on Salamano a dog beater and how he beats his dog, Meursault does not think much. Meursault says to raymond “no” (camus 28). Meursault is very neutral and does not really judge people. On the other hand, most people are like Raymond. Raymond said that, “Salamano's acts are pitiful” (Camus 27). The thing with Raymond though, Raymond beats women. It is ironic that Raymond is fine with beating women, but beating a dog is unrighteous. On another note, Camus the author might have put Salomano in the story to continue the pattern of showing how Meursault has no emotion. Another reason, Camus…

From the YouTube clip, the narrator, Alain de Botton, described Nietzsche’s “good life” as a person “...striving to correct the belief that fulfilment must come easily or not as all…the wise must devote themselves to avoiding pain rather than seeking pleasure. Fulfilment was to be reached not by avoiding pain, but by recognizing its role, as a natural, inevitable step or the way to reaching anything good.” De Botton articulated that Nietzsche believed pleasure was result of some type of physical or mental pain. If an individual was happy with one’s life, it was the conclusion of failing one or multiple times. For a person to be satisfied, failure before is solely the step the ingredient prior.…

Gabriel Nicolas de La Reynie similar to Inspector Meusnier had to collect information to help the government control the book trade. The police along with de La Reynie had “to visit print shops and verify that they were following regulations and only publishing sanctioned books” (Soll, 131). De La Reynie tried various methods to help regulate the import of books and ensuring if the books were appropriate enough to enter Paris. Unlike Meusnier, the concerned was focused on theology and canon law, de La Reynie did not want anything to undermine the royal authority (Soll, 134). However de La Reynie’s and Meusnier’s practices were not so different from one…

In his description of being liberated from the camps, Frankl (2006)says, “Only slowly could these men be guided back to the commonplace truth that no one has the right to do wrong, not even if wrong has been done to them” (p. 91). I believe Frankl was trying to let the men know that it’s ok to be angry and hurt by what the guards have done to them and their families. Frankl believed one day there would be some kind of consequences that they would face for their actions of what they have done to the people and their families in the camps. Frankl didn’t want the prisoners to retaliate on the guards for the crimes that they had committed, he also didn’t want the prisoners to be killed. He also believes that it’s going to take some time for these people to get their life back, and going home and facing the truth about what happen to them and their families. I could not imagine going home after what had happen in these camps knowing that there might not be anyone to go home too. These men have lost so much in their life; they were made to work and live in poor conditions. All they had was their faith and the hope that they would see their loved ones after being release from the camps.…

    In Paris with You Analysis

This is an interesting poem that appears to deal with the subject of a person rebounding from a failed relationship into a new romantic encounter set against the cliched romantic backdrop of Paris. However, upon closer inspection it seems that despite the overt romantic language and imagery there is also a dark side of this poem suggesting that the heartbroken speaker is merely looking for some company to help them deal with the fallout of a failed relationship. The title of the poem, 'In Paris With You' establishes what the reader supposes is the setting of the poem: Paris. It is perhaps useful to remember that some people refer to Paris as 'the city of romance' or 'the most romantic city in the world' due to its association with romantic literature, 19th century liberalism, the sexual freedoms of the 1960s and a general racial stereotype that maintains that French people enjoy pleasure above all else. Stereotypes aside (we should never deal with stereotypes) Paris is a beautiful and historic city perfect for a romantic trip away or 'dirty weekend'. The title of the poem immediately puts the reader in mind of romance, particularly that the title indicates that the speaker is in Paris with someone else. It could be that the poet is establishing a cliched setting for a poem that despite its overtly romantic language is actually dealing with what could be an awkward sexual encounter between two strangers. On the other hand, the poem could be a celebration of finding new love, or an exciting and unexpected romance in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.…

I think that someone would have to be crazy to do that and why would you really want to do something like that. The United states response should be to help them and provide protection. This could impact my life in the future because if more attacks happen more often then the world could be in a lot of trouble. It is important that people think about this topic because we need to stop this threat and protect the world. This article matters because Paris was in danger and ISIS was killing people and they could attack America next. People need to think about this topic because ISIS os a huge threat and could potentially take over the world and we need to stop them from doing that. I do not know why someone that crazy would do that just attack a random city just for fun. We need to help Paris recover and stop ISIS. These are my thoughts about what should be done.…

The Closing of the North American mind by Robert Nielsen, discusses the erosion of the North American society, because of our failing educational system. I agree with Nielsen on some of his arguments against the system. Majority of the student body studies to obtain marks. What they study usually disappears after they get what they want. This pattern goes on for four years, which is supposedly preparing the students for the bigger step, university or college.…

The christians when they traveled to Jerusalem they thought they were making god proud of claimings back where their god once walked. They felt like they were going to become heroes for what they were going to do. They were going to walk where he walked. They were going to free their sins they thought. According to The first crusade Analyzing different perspectives document A by Raymond d'Aguilers paragraph 2, “Lord, so that Almighty God, who for us, His servants, laid aside the form of His Godhead, assumed the flesh, and humbly rode into the city on an ass to suffer death on the Cross for our sins, may come to our aid. If we make this procession around the walls, for the honor and glory of His name, He will open the city to us and give us judgment upon His enemies and ours, who now with unjust possession contaminate the place of His suffering and burial, the enemy who seek to deny us the great blessing of the place of God's humiliation and our redemption.(d'Aguilers 2).” As you can see the Christians were trying to free themselves from their sins.…

Throughout the development of education, there has been evidences of a constant strive towards providing equal education to all students despite their background. For example, Horace Mann creation of the common school or John Dewey's idea of progressive education. Before the French Revolution, life in French was easy for the rich people (clergy, nobles and bourgeoisie) in all ways, including education. All over the countries there were lots of important and well-paid colleges, universities and elementary schools, all financed by the Catholic Church. There were over 50,000 students from which 3,000 were scholarship students. Rarely, some of the wealthy poor afforded education and they were not discriminated in any way, they studied in the same places as the rich ones.
