Feeding South Florida High School Project Case Study
Under the presidency of S.A.D.D (Students Against Destructive Decisions) in my high school, I've conducted and lead many projects to help many organizations and even planned and coordinated many community service projects. But, out of the many project that the club and I have planned and created, I would have to state that I've projected my leadership role the most while our club and I went to Feeding South Florida for a field trip that I've planned. The reason why I state this is because, Feeding South Florida was a common place that many people knew, especially our members, and so before we got to the warehouse, I've explained the purpose Feeding South Florida stands for and the job that we would have to do there. When we got to the warehouse and began working, I would help the members and other volunteers carry boxes that were a bit heavy for them to carry and to help them understand how to sort the items that were donated to the warehouse into categorized boxes that they had provided to us. The purpose on why I led this project is because of the purpose behind Feeding South Florida, which is to collect, pack and send foods to the many shelters and food kitchens that they have provided in South Florida and working on this project created a positive effect on my life. The reason why I state this is because, while volunteering, it made me feel as if I was privileged.

Recently there has been revisions to the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and schools were required to overhaul their entire menus to provide the students with healthy and nutritious foods including fruits and vegetables. The new school lunch rules are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 which has been implemented this fall. (Post Standard) The Hunger Act allows the USDA the opportunity to make reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs. With these revisions come strict guidelines from the federal government that each school district must follow in order to receive funding and reimbursement (National School Lunch Program, 2012, August p. 1). In this essay i will be comparing the positive and negative effects of these recent revisions to the NSLP. I will then discuss whether or not these changes are beneficial to the children receiving the meal and whether NSLP is leaving children hungry or helping children make healthy food choices.…

I was elected as the president of Interact Club during my second year as a result of my dedication and passion to the volunteer services of this organization. Within my school, I advocated and promoted the importance of offering hands-on service projects to local communities. As the leader, I delegated responsibilities to each member of my organization based on their strengths in order to maximize my group’s efficiency in completing the tasks at hand. Bringing people together encouraging human unity is a gift. Participating in service demonstrates that a person cares for others. There is no measurement for service to society, it is what helps to make the world a better place. I provide service regularly at my church, City Of Faith Church Of God. The congregation inspires me to give as much of me to them, as I possibly can. Working at. The church food pantry brings me joy.feeding citizens who are without the basics, food, and seeing the look of relief on their faces is one of the greatest experiences. Additionally, preparing for the culmination of "Child's Month Celebration" has been a lot of fun. Designing the logo based on the theme of "Be A Winner and Join The Race" was a fulfilling role. As a nominee of the National Honors Society , my mind overflows with ideas of how we can serve in our community. Some tasks we can fulfill include visiting the elderly. I am certain that they would appreciate and enjoy us going to read and/or listen them. Helping to clean our school environment would also be a good use of our service. In addition, I believe that academic tutoring from members of the Honors Society to students at NFA, other schools in the district, and the public library would be very useful and effective. Our service is important and would be very effective in our…

As an executive officer in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, each individual is responsible for a legacy project during the school year. I was responsible for SOS Children’s Village which is a foster care neighborhood that houses children that were abused, neglected and/or abandoned. Even though this was a one-day experience, I was thrilled about the opportunity to work with children as I believe that no child should be denied proper medical care and a healthy home. It is said that time goes by when you are having fun. This was true for our experience as we went four hours over time. I coordinated leadership and team building activities for the children in which both the volunteers and participants enjoyed. Who knew that in five hours’ strong bonds can be developed with a stranger that you might not encounter again.…

“Self reliance” has a fantastic central idea that is easily relatable to a life situation today in 2016. This central idea is “to believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men --that is genius.” (Emerson) In other words a person must must trust their own thoughts and to put them into actions because that is what they think is right. This holds true today in situations like poverty. The rates of people in poverty are only increasing as time goes on. Luckily, There are multiple non-profit organizations and charities that are trying to minimize the homeless and impoverished people. Throughout my high school career, I have been given numerous opportunities to lead other students by example, work ethic, volunteerism, and school involvement. I believe that my greatest impact as a leader in high school has been through my participation in a Service Learning Class. This class gave me the chance to help and lead others by tutoring younger students in the middle school and elementary school. As a senior, I felt responsible for providing a voice for the class in ideas and decisions to help better our school. I worked with administrators, teachers, and class members to promote healthy habits of responsibility, school pride, respect, and service.…

In 8th grade I became heavily involved in my schools STEM program who specialized in Medical Skills and partook in HOSA state competitions. All my life I had shown an intense liking for helping others therefore medicine seemed as my calling and once joining STEM my interests in the medical field grew deeper and deeper as well as my passion for leadership. So when the chance to compete in the HOSA competition came about I jumped at the chance to win an award for my school. I teamed up with 3 other girls and together we were to educate the public on careers within the medical system. We did careers from pediatrician to an aquatic vetenarian, my job was to keep creativity as well as knowledge flowing, I exhibited strong character, drive, detemanation, as well as patience during our project, these were extremely important in keeping the team focused as well as appreciated since we all contributed amazingly to the project and so it won second place! This experience taught me social skills as well as time management, it helped me become a more rounded person and strengthen my character. I was able to keep my team happy and restrained from being overbearing or bossy, which are not qualities a leader should possess. Another instance where a held a position of leadership was this year where I became the president of Alonso’s Anchor Club, where young ladies partake in various community service projects to better the world around them, the most recent event our girls took part in was the 5k Walk Against Breast Cancer with Dr. Lee right here in Tampa, Florida. With the massive help from our girls the team raised $6,000 all going towards the National Breast Cancer Foundation.…

However, the more media coverage and the more conversation students were having around me, the more I knew that staying silent was not the choice I was going to make. It was then that I performed one of the most courageous acts I have at that moment in my life. I went to social platform and voiced my concerns about the accepted ignorance and lack of attention any racial, religious,or gender-based issues receive. Where before I choose to fit in, I now understood that I have every opportunity to change the course of the social environment of America- it starts by standing up for what I believe in now. My views are just as valid as anyone else's. I actively put myself out there to make one happen. Building up the confidence to be the role model, leader, and most importantly the person I want to be proved to be the best personal development that helped me grow more responsible for my actions and act compassionately to those around me. Overcoming my fear judgement from my peers enabled me to use my voice as a tool to preach love, equality, and justice and my choice to be a part of society by bringing awareness to others is one that I take pride in more than anything…
