Waste is using resources – be it labor, materials, or equipment – over and above what is required to produce the service or product defined by our customers. Ultimately, if our customer/client does not need or would not pay for it, it is waste. It is of no value to the customer/client.…

The purpose of this project is to continue to change the way the UST community thinks about waste. Composting confronts the idea that, when you throw something away it just disappears, and provides alternative to sending our waste to landfills. In the fall of 2012, the CSF funded a project to expand Dr. Chester Wilson’s vermiculture composting system, which composts all of the coffee grounds produced by Beakers on the second floor of OWS. The goal of this previous CSF project was to expand the efforts of Dr. Wilson by collecting and composting much of the coffee grounds produced on north campus, as well as to raise campus awareness on the benefits and ease of composting. This project is well underway, and one can see the worms working their digestive wonders in the parking ramp under ASC. Quinn Wrenholt, the primary applicant of the fall vermicomposting CSF proposal, and other members of the Composting Club have been collecting the coffee grounds from the library Coffee Bene, as well as from T’s, the Loft, and Summit Marketplace in the student center since this spring semester began (with average daily collection of between 12 and 18 gallons of coffee grounds – more than 50 gallons each week). The collection crew, which consists of seven motivated individuals, comprises the core group of the Composting Club and has already logged more than 30 cumulative hours of volunteer time providing a direct service to our campus through collecting the coffee grounds we produce.…

T.S.Eliot complcted ‘The Waste Land’ in the autumn of 1921, and with the constructive suggestions of Ezra Pound about the structure of the poem ,the present draft of the poem , which was published in 1922, has become a classic. It is also, more importantly, the symbol of a whole age, signifying a new kind of poetry and a poetic revolution in modern English Literature and culture. The poem is a masterpiece of innovative poetic design and embodies an entirely new and original poetic technique. To make the environment free from pollution an attempt was made to construct the water tank using the discarded pet bottles. Since there is construction materials scarcity, we need to go for an alternative construction material. The three basic needs for human life are food, shelter and clothing. But in developing countries like India there is no shelter for poor people. By considering this, the shelter can be constructed at low cost. Making of brick emits carbon-di-oxide, the emission can be eliminated by using pet bottles in construction. The construction using pet bottles is a part of green building concept hence it will be eco-friendly. The environment is made free from pollution by utilization of discarded bottles. The water tank was constructed and checked for its feasibility. The structural stability was checked by various methods like rebound hammer test, seepage test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test. The ultimate aim of our project is to compare the cost of construction using pet bottles & bricks.…
