Fair Is Not Everyone Getting The Same Thing Essay
1. Please discuss an example in which fair is not everybody getting the same thing, instead fair is everybody getting what they need in order to be successful. The perfect example that I can think of quickly from the top of my head would be the simple case scenario of glasses. For example, if one student needs glasses, does that mean that all students should wear glasses? Simple answer in this case, not everyone needs glasses, therefore not everyone would be treated equal by receiving a pair of glasses, instead it would be seen as fair towards the student who actually needs the glasses in order to be successful.
2. Please discuss how you would teach student's this concept. What type of activity would you have students be actively involved in that would teach students this difficult, yet powerful concept? Feel free to search online and modify a lesson to be your own. I decided to search online due to my lack of experience regarding lesson plans. I came across two brilliant ideas regarding how to teach this concept. The first one was a cool poster that I came across on Pinterest which I figured that I could use along with the lesson I found on teacherspayteachers.com. The poster is titled as Fair vs. Equal, and it states:
*Equal means the same.
*I will not be treating

The poster does a great job in explain the difference between fair vs equal. Along with the poster I found this lesson named Band Aid lesson: Fair is not equal. This lesson seems very simple, but it gets the main idea across students with a visualized concept of injuries and band aids in order to prove the main idea of fair is not equal which can be trace back “Fair is not everybody getting the same thing, instead fair is everybody getting what they need in order to be

An example in the health care context is that in a walk-in clinic a nurse lets people with a heterosexual orientation get seen before people of a homosexual orientation, instead of making everyone equally wait their turn. This would be a sign of the nurse not giving the people of homosexual orientation have an equal chance at being seen by the doctor. This is lack of equality and also discrimination of sexual orientation. In order to correct this, the nurse needs to set out the order of who gets to see the doctor first either by time they have been waiting or the direness of their injuries, this way she is not discriminating or taking away the equality of people within the clinic as she is not basing the waiting list on factors such as gender, race, sexual orientation, e.c.t.…
