Facebook Informative essay
Facebook We all use social media web sites. They have been around for years. The first big social media website that we all used was Myspace. But then another one came along. At first only a few people converted. Then more and more people made the switch. The few people still holding on to Myspace where forced to switch, because there was no one left to message. Myspace was digitally killed. Killed by non-other than, Facebook. Facebook became the top of social media websites, and it has stayed that way ever since. Facebook didn 't just happen overnight, its amazing story started in a little dorm room with just a group of college students. Facebook all started with Mark Zuckerberg. Mark Zuckerberg joined Harvard law school in 2002 (Mezrich 1). He was a very tech savvy computer programmer. A lot of his time was spent sitting at his computer playing with his skills. In his free time he decided to make a website called Facemash just for fun. The fact that someone Zuckerberg’s age could make a website like that was very impressive. It was essentially a website that put pictures of two different classmates on the screen. The user selected which one was hot and which one was not. There was honestly no point in him making this website other than just for fun. However, his classmates didn’t find it as fun as he did. There were too many outraged students and he was forced to take it down.
After the Facemash ordeal, he realized he may have struck gold. He could make a website where people could post picture of themselves and give some personal information. It would be a perfect way to let Harvard students communicate over the internet with one another and meet new people. He made this new website with the help of his roommates. They called this new website, thefacebook.com (Mezrich 1). It was specifically a social media website for college students. It spread to other schools and eventually grew into a full blown social media website. The
