This is a major problem because the whole purpose of school is to learn. School sports should be banned because they cause students to fall behind in school work, cost the school money that could be used for educational purposes, and take focus off from school. As a result of being in school sports, many days of school are often missed in order to attend out of town competitions. Making up these days is always a struggle, especially if the student takes school seriously and is enrolled in high-level classes, such as Advanced Placement or Honors level classes. As a result, the student falls more and more behind each week. Even if the student is able to completely catch up, they missed the valuable instruction and practice that comes with being in class. 1. According to the twelfth edition of Sports in Society by Jay Coakley, “"Generalizing about high school and college sport programs is difficult because programs and the conditions under which participation occurs are so diverse” (Coakley, 476). However, there are definitely some broad, widespread issues that are found within the majority of high school sports programs. The textbook offers a plethora of claims against interscholastic sports, and one that stood out to was the claim that highlighted the pressure that interscholastic sports place on student-athletes. Unlike club sports, high school sports practice for over 2 hours every day after school and have games on weeknights, leaving little time to prepare for exams and to get homework done.…

Schools across the U.S. have banned sports to increase their budgets and have succeeded. In Ripley’s article “Yes, It’s Time to Scale Back”a school district cut off all sports and saved about 150,000 dollars a year giving the district extra money for much needed supplies(10). “To cut the cost of school the district moved the middle school to the high school building” they renovated the area to suit their needs for a better establishment for students(9-10). Therefore all states of the U.S should stop sports programs to save money because of the fact that schools need the extra money. It is now apparent that schools should shut down sports to increase the amount of money for all districts.…

Sports keep teens well behaved at school and in class. Sports reduce the number of fights, and bad classroom behavior. In order to play any sport in high school, the students must make good grades. If they fail to make the grades, then they are either dismissed from the team, or they must take a study hall before each practice for at least 30 minutes, sometimes even for the whole day until his or her grade comes up to a passing grade. In most high schools, there are problems with attendance from the students. If a player does not come to school, then they may not go to practice or attend the game that…

Sometimes, sports can interfere with academics so student-athletes should receive more time to study. Schools need the coaches and players to be more serious about academics, because graduation rates are still very low (Denhart). Banning football from high schools and colleges would be a bad idea that would happen. Banning football would take away many benefits and skills from their students. Without having high school or college football that would take away from other leagues like NFL, Canadian football league or Arena football league. In “Why College Football Should Be Banned” by Buzz Bissinger, Bissinger states a lot about the cost of college football; colleges spend too much on their football programs. I disagree with that article; I lead more to the “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefits Students” by Grace Chean. Therefore I disagree that we should ban high school football and college football.…

Many students do extracurricular activities, and they devote a lot of time to these activities. However, as shown by both Alfie Kohn, a school principal, the current amount of homework assigned is enough so that the average student without extracurricular activities complain about being sleep deprived. Homework doesn’t leave any time for extracurricular activities. Kids who do extracurricular activities often devote more effort to those activities than homework. Of course, many adults will argue that if the kids can’t handle the work, they should quit the sport or class; school is more important. But this isn’t the case. The kids are right to take their sports more seriously than homework. In senior year of high school, when they apply for colleges, these activities will do more for them than a perfect track record with homework. Their special skills in sports will draw attention from recruiters after college. In the end, extracurricular activities will bring you farther than doing homework, but doing homework takes up the time needed for extracurricular…

Activities and sports in schools is a great way for students to be involved, and to be active. I have done research and there hasn’t been one article I found on why sports shouldn’t be in schools. Having athletic programs and activities in schools are very helpful for students health, it develops team work, helps develop discipline and also perfection. School administrators, and parents, generally support high school activity programs because of the positive effect these activities appear to have on students of both genders. (Braddock P.1)…

Sport at school should NOT be compulsory. Sports training and PE take up time that could be better spent learning other subjects, and PE and Sport are not as important as other subjects like maths, science etc. It is also my belief that it students should have the right to choose whether or not we do sport/PE, because we are allowed to choose the subjects that are more important, so why are we not allowed to choose whether or not we do sport?…
