The Netherlands 26th August 2014 Dear Sir/Madam, First of all I would like to introduce myself, my name is Sander Boer, a seventeen year old student and yet I am attending comprehensive school. Recently I read an article written by you about the huge mess on the Mount Everest. I was really shocked about the dangers I read, and even the guides can’t handle the hard conditions, the danger for the hobby climbers must be bulky. I would like to give you my opinion about the problems and a possible solution.
The main problem on the mount Everest is pollution , lots of inexperienced climbers are trying to reach the top of the mountain but lots of them perished. The government permits inexperienced climbers to go along because it is a source of income. The climbers have to pay climbing fees, and that’s why the government give their allowance to inexperienced climbers to go to the summit. All the same makes that the fatality rate is exploded and reached the highest level in years. It leads to an huge mess on the Everest.
The only advantage to give the allowance is the growing tourism industry however I think that the cons are bigger than the pron. In my opinion the government is in their position to take care about people and they have to provide that nobody goes up but doesn’t get down.
I think that the government has to strike to the climbing permits till the insist international standards for the permits. And the mere permits international standards for the climbing gear so the climber will not be as fast as before exploited. Money should not go ahead of lives of naive people.
Hopefully you enjoyed reading my letter.
Yours Faithfully,
Sander Boer

Everest will devour all in its icy crevasses and leave one’s thoughts twisted, questioning why they came here in the first place. Into Thin Air, a journalistic view novel by Jon Krakauer, tells of the May 1996 tempest that ominously shadowed Everest, leaving all on the summit oblivious as the storm’s winds growl from a short distance below them. On May 11th when the storm attacks at its full strength, it would leave eight people dying during their summit attempt. Three guides, Rob Hall, Scott Fischer, and Anatoli Boukreev, automatically stood out because as guides one may feel they hold the full responsibility of this tragedy. Rob Hall, was a studied and cerebral person with a calm disposition, he professionally guided and climbed as a main guide for the Adventure Consultants. Scott Fischer was an American mountain guide for Mountain Madness, in which he founded. He was known for his ascents of the world’s highest mountains without…

This essay is manly about the conflicts with two very different climbers on the ascent and descent of the fatal climb on everest in 1996. Rob Hall. Rob I believe had a conflict of person vs self because in his heart he didn't want to leave his customer up on the mountain he wanted to go down together, When Rob could have gotten himself down absolutely fine. Rob had the courage that no one else would have and that's is that he would leave no man behind, even though his teammates down bellow wanted him to come down that once he was alone he was to frozen and exhausted to move that's also why I think his conflict was person vs nature. Because the storm was too bad for his teammates to go up and get him but also that the storm and carrying his teammate exhausted him.…

The degree of loyalty and teamwork on Everest amplifies potential hazards to professional guides and their fellow clients. In this expedition, ‘guide’ means a leader of group, thus all guides have responsibility to care clients as individual. However, caring those inexperienced climbers at the 8,000 meters above is too extreme for the guides. Shigekawa who is one of Japanese climber on Everest explains that they “were too tired to help. Above 8,000 meters is not a place where people can afford morality.” However, in that terrible condition, honorable guide such as Rob Hall has to support his client Doug Hansen. When Hall reaches to South summit to support Doug Hansen to achieve his goal, Doug’s oxygen has run out, and they become stranded at the top. Hall could have left Hansen and descend the mountain for survival, “Hall, however wouldn’t consider going down without Hansen.” Hall is trying to protect his clients until the very end and his loyalty could deserve respect as a leader. As a result, extreme loyalty and trusting between guides and clients brings more death on the expedition.…

On May 10, 1996 six people died trying to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. These people were parts of two expeditions that were in the Himalayas, preparing to ascend the summit for six weeks. The first group was under the direction of Rob Hall, who had put 39 paying clients on the summit in five years. Hall was considered the leader of the mountain and the man to see no matter what the discrepancy. Group two, headed by Fisher, who like Hall, was trying to start a profitable business in providing the experience of climbing Mt. Everest to all for the price of 60 to 70 thousand dollars. Unfortunatly, neither man would live to tell the tale of this expedition.…

The last reason that it is not a good idea to climb Mount Everest is the cost. Climbing Mount Everest is a very expensive thing to do. On page 425 in the textbook, it says that if you leave trash on the mountain than you are required to pay $4,000 for garbage cleaning. You also have to pay for the trip, food, place to stay, a group to climb with and more things. It is also not guaranteed that you will be able to summit Mount everest. It is a lot of money to pay for something that is not guaranteed.…

With people taking advantage of the resources the mountains provide, environmental problems are being created. For example: water pollution, landslides, forest fires, soil erosion, reservoir sedimentation, and flooding in lower and middle altitudes. With these issues also come the concerns about the mountain ecosystem, and the increasing pressure it’s being put under. Areas of the land are threatened with destruction, and species of wildlife are diminishing toward extinction.…
