It is a common truism that love can be one of the most powerful forces we know of. William Shakespeare’s “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” is no exception of this truism. The setting is the city of Verona, Italy. The plot is the two main protagonists of two feuding families fall madly in love with each other. Against all odds, their love grows, overcoming obstacles. Both, Romeo and Juliet, seem as if they are in true love, but this is not so. Romeo and Juliet feel as if they have true love, but most of the time, both don’t really know what it “true love” is.

When Romeo and Juliet meet on Juliet’s balcony, Juliet becomes very hasty and myopic. “If that thy bent of love be honorable,/Thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow/By one that I’ll procure to come to thee/Where and what time thou wilt perform the rite,/And all my fortunes at thy foot I’ll lay/And follow thee my lord throughout the world.” (2.2.143-148). This shows that Romeo and Juliet do not know what true love is because the real kind of love is the kind that takes time to develop, their love is very blighted. Juliet is very impatient.
