Romeos Flaw

Romeo’s Greatest Flaw Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare. This play is one of his greatest and most famous tragedies. The main character, Romeo, has a flaw however that ultimately leads to him killing himself in the end. Romeo’s character flaw is present even from the very start of the play. His flaw is that he is too in love with the idea of love. This characteristic of Romeo’s is present the very first time he is introduced in the play. Romeo is introduced mourning in his room because he loves a girl who does no love him back. His best friend Benvolio has to come and comfort him. Seeing in what bad shape Romeo is in he says, “Alas that love, so gentle in his view, should be so tyrannous and roof in proof.” (1.1.813) The fact that he was stuck in his room mourning shows how in love with love he is. Romeo also shows his flaw when he goes to the Capulet’s orchard. Even though it’s only been a day since he met Juliet, he already feels like he loves her so he goes to watch her. He says he came on, “love’s light wings”. (2.2.839) While he’s with her that day he also agrees to marry her the next day only after knowing her a day. This shows how desperate he is to fall in love with someone. Once Romeo thinks he’s found love there’s nothing that will make him want to let it go. When Romeo gets banished for killing Tybault he is again found mourning in Friar Lawrence’s presence. He is sad because he feels like death would’ve been better than being banished and not getting to see Juliet. He says, “Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say death.” (3.3.875) so he is so in love that he’d rather be dead than not have it. This foreshadows his death at the end of the play. Romeo’s flaw, ad the characteristic that ultimately lead to his death is that he is too in love with the idea of being in love. This flaw cause him to act desperately and without thinking, which is why this flaw is what lead to Juliet and herself killing themselves in the
