Examples Of Microteaching
My microteaching experience was completed at Rich South High School in Richton Park, IL. The cooperating teacher for this assignment was Elena Van Lieshout. Ms. Van Lieshout has been at Rich South for eleven years and she teaches 11th and 12th grade English and Language Arts. The 12th grade class she teaches is an AP English class. The classes Ms. Van Lieshout requested I participate in most were her first and third period classes, which were both 11th grade English classes. One of the first observations I made was the lack of respect the students had for their teacher and the lessons she presented to them.
The classes begin each day with a bell ringer activity which consists of a word of the day, the students are to copy the word of the day with the corresponding definition. They are also told to create an original sentence using

More connections need to be made in order for the students to understand why certain academic concepts are important to them and how they apply to their own lives. One mechanism I think would have made the students more attentive is connecting the concept of civil disobedience to the numerous modern day events that are taking place in their own lives. It would be beneficial for the students to know that they often participate in civil disobedience without realizing it. I would also add technology into their lessons, most of the students are visual learners and reading through pages of text is not an effective way of learning for these students. Ultimately, the microteaching experience was eye-opening and informative as I began to appreciate the different learning styles of each student and eventually became accustomed to the teaching style of the cooperating

One of the drawbacks in the lesson was not enough hands-on interaction between the students. It was mainly teacher to student. For an ELL this may be confusing if she is not checking in with the ELL student, making sure they are understanding the material. She did not once go around the tables and check for understanding with any of the student except for asking question that were needed to be answered.…

Blue’s class she reminded them of the Bill Nye video that they had watch, and the kids remember lots of things from the video. This was a great way to get the students engaged and to help with a visual representation. She also gave each of them a chance to explain their reason and definitions with the whole class. She kept the students engaged by having them all take turns reading and highlight as they went along. Her role was to present questions for the students, who were to think about the answer and then share with one another. It was a good idea to spilt the students in to partners to discuss. In Mr. G’s he explained that the students had only been giving him work that was about fifty percent effort. He did allow for students to take out there phone and take pictures of the board to make sure they had the information. They also were very good at reading along with him and answering his questions out of the book. I think it was a good idea to get the students more engaged in the learning process, by working in smaller groups together. These are both great examples of their responsibility as a teacher to create good creative and instructive…

Upon walking in to Roger Beadle’s classroom, any person can see that it is set up with the students in mind, having tables versus desks which suggest that group work is done frequently and the walls are covered from top to bottom in examples of the students’ work from throughout the year. He uses a variety of approaches to encourage the students to respond and participate and the student responses are woven into each of the lessons. Students participate as both learners and teachers. The students never hesitate to ask for clarification on a concept or statement and always respectfully challenge Mr. Beadle or the other students by sharing their points of view or beliefs. Overall, Mr. Beadle sets the tone of a highly respectful attitude by eliciting courteous remarks, speaking directly to the students appropriate for their grade level and maturity, and modeling positive behavior during debates or when an opposing viewpoint is offered. He also ensures that cooperative learning takes place in the class by having students share their thinking in large and small groups.…

    The Third Wave

What I found most disturbing about his article was, that the fact one person could go in and take a group of students and convince them that being a part of a particular group could unite them as one! It seemed they were more disciplined, stronger, held each other accountable for their actions. By the middle of the project, even Mr. Jones had questioned his past teaching skills and thought The Third Wave was disturbing normal learning in his class. It even crossed his mind that he” Should have I been teaching this technique all along?” just because of the positive response in the beginning. Mr. .Jones was extremely surprised by the student’s desire and response to fulfill his task. Students not only obeyed him, but not even questioned his demands. As the week went on more kids felt that they needed to be a part of The Third Wave.…

This was very interesting to watch. Their routine was to come in the class get settled and a student goes to the “Helping Hands” board and read off the assignment duties for the week. In regards to the rules, they knew to raise their hands to be recognized by the teacher. Should a student finish their work ahead of everyone they are to get additional work out of the remediation box. The thing that was truly amazing was they would cheer for their fellow classmates and say “good job and/or goog try”. They were very encouraging towards each other.…

Teacher’s Activity 1. Review and Motivation“Today we’re about to proceed in our next lesson but before we dig inside, we are going have an activity, and this activity will serve as a recap about our recent topics and a clue for our today’s lesson.” “Are you in?!” When I asked you, “Are you in?!” you are going to shout “We are In!”Again. Are you in?!“Alright. Listen to my instructions because I will tell it once.”“First I’ll group you into four.” “If you notice there is a cartolina at the centre containing questions that are related to our recent topics and there are four boxes too. Actually those boxes contain the answers that correspond to those questions in cartolina. All you have to do is to get the answers inside the box one by one, one question-one member. The first member will run toward the box to get the answer in the first question and he/she will paste it in his/her chest and afterwards he/she must return in the group and snap the hand of another group mate to get the answer of the second question and will paste it in…
