The American Dream in jeopardy? America is not the greatest country in the world anymore due to the values and dreams that are fading away. The American Dream, the belief that a U.S citizen should have equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity, is in jeopardy. The dream has helped to shape and unite the country. The forefathers of America wanted to see their country successful and filled with prosperity, but America is slowing letting the hope and dreams that our forefathers once dreamed about fade away. Many argue that the dream is still evident in this world which is slightly true with the education system growing slowly growing. They want the money and tries every easy way possible to get money but failes to realize that there has to be hard work and time put in to achieve wealth and prosperity. In the book, The Great Gatsby, the author writes, “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together and let other people clean up the mess they had made” (Fitzgerald 179). Tom and Daisy represent the American people who give their attention to the important matters for a few moments and then quickly return to the comfort of their money and forget about the important matters. Wealth often goes to our heads and we do not realize that money will not last long. In my own life, I saw many of my family members who had nothing but once they had wealth turned their backs on us but when they lost their wealth they came running back. The reason is that when they had little they were close with my parents but when they had money and tons of it they changed into family that forgot we were related; but once they lost their money they came running back for help. If America continues to care more about the money, but does not put in the hard work and time, the American Dream can never be
