Examples Of Cather's Three Philosophies

Cather’s views on the three philosophies of life help people understand the story in many different ways. Each character portrays a different philosophy. Some with Realism. Others with Romantic or Naturalistic. Cather used all three and did a great job explaining and working them all in the book. Throughout the book it kept it interesting. Although, Cather had all three philosophies in her book the Naturalistic point of view stood out the most. Naturalistic in philosophy means an idea or belief that only natural (as opposed to supernatural or spiritual) laws and forces operate in the world. “All at once, in a single day, I lose everything; And I don’t know why” said Alexandra. Realism in philosophy means everything put into the Realism point of view. “One January day, thirty years ago, the little town of Hanover, anchored on a windy Nebraska tableland, was trying not to be blown away". This quote shows Realism in one way. It expresses how the town will not move from one place. It will hold that spot for eternity. “I have a feeling that if you go away, you will not come back. This shows how frank expression of annoyance when he comes to find Emil and Marie in the orchard together (His wife and friend). She went through hardships which she reflects on when John gives the farm to Alexandra and after that moment her brothers don’t believe in her capability of running the farm. The world does not believe in Romantic views, what happens happens and life goes on and people can not prevent any event from happening. My views, like Cather, creates a Naturalistic view onto life. By Cather believing in the things she did, she set the bar and became a role model for most woman and still today some could look at her as in inspiration for knowing what she could achieve doing so in that time period. The world does not care if a man has bigger muscles or can work harder, the world cares about nothing meaning anyone can do anything and women should not have to change their views or what they want for themselves just because a man says
