Example Of Professionalism In Fieldwork 1
Overall, I displayed professionalism during Fieldwork 1 by following the rules and expectations set forth by the organization. For example, I dressed appropriately, worked well with the clients and staff, and showed respect and courtesy for others (i.e., respecting clients’ confidentiality, having integrity, not gossiping, etc.). Moreover, I assert that one of my assets during Fieldwork 1 was my ability to be optimistic, especially when I had a bad day. For instance, despite my mood, I had the ability to display a positive demeanor that likely contributed to a pleasant work environment and that undoubtedly had a favorable impact on the clients. In addition, I maintain that I did a great job utilizing constructive criticism, staying on task, actively listening, and helping clients to the best of my ability.

One aspect of professionalism that I struggled with during Fieldwork 1 is being a self-starter. That is, I was definitely hesitant to try new things that were beyond my comfort zone. Moreover, I struggled with getting things done ahead of time. Admittedly, procrastination made me less productive and caused me to feel overwhelmed at times during Fieldwork 1. In life, to successfully move forward I need to establish goals. “The tragedy in life is not reaching your goal, but having no goal to reach” (Leadership for Student Activities, 2005). I must have a plan of how I will achieve my goals and be able to identify when an important element of that goal is reached. Possible setbacks must be considered and purposeful schemes arranged for when the unexpected shows up. According to Deci and Ryan (1984), “Goals, whether trivial, routine, significant or life altering, are part of peoples everyday lives”.…

First, setting goals will help you focus on where you need to get to, instead of fooling around when you shouldn’t. I once read that having no goals to aim for is like shooting an arrow with no target, and it’s true. What are you aiming for in life if you have no dreams to reach? By setting goals, it will motivate you to keep going. Whether it’s for your education or in your career, you will want to keep pushing yourself so that you can become the best that you can. As Dr. O. Carl Simonton once said “Goals are simply tools to focus your energy in positive directions, these can be changed as your priorities change, new ones added, and others dropped.”…
