The Oxford English Dictionary defines “Euthanasia” as the painless killing of a patient suffering an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma. A doctor named Francis Bacon defines euthanasia as an easy, painless and happy death. Suetonius, a historian, defines it as a dying quickly and without suffering. For Dr.Maise M, euthanasia is a way of painlessly terminating the lives of those who are either suffering from an incurable disease or are in immense pain. She also said that it is a form of assisted suicide which is done with the “Humane” motive of easing one’s pain and suffering. From the article made by Dr. Maise M, a patient should have the liberty to choose induced death if he is suffering from an incurable disease where even the best treatment doesn’t improve his quality of life. She also said that euthanasia should be a natural extension of patient’s right’s allowing him to decide the value of life and death where in maintaining life support system against patient’s wish is considered unethical by law as well as medical philosophy. According to Dr.Maise M, a doctor is expected to help treat dick by prescribing medicines that will relieve the patient’s suffering even if medications potentially give rise to serious side effects. This means dealing with distress should be the priority even it affects one’s life expectancy. While killing someone in an attempt to defend “self” is acceptable by law, mercy killing is seen as an act that is highly immoral in nature. The motive of euthanasia is to “aid-in-dying” painlessly and thus be considered positively by lawmakers. Also legalizing euthanasia would help alleviate suffering in terminally ill patients. It would be inhuman and unfair to make them endure the unbearable pain. Based on the article by Dr. Maise M, family heirs who would misuse euthanasia as a tool for wealth inheritance.
