Ethnographic research
We believe an IMAX movie theater would get great business in Niagara Falls because there isn’t one in the area. There is one a distance away if people want to enjoy an IMAX theater movie. Our group did Ethic graphic Research at the Regal Niagara Falls Movie Theater, which would be the competitor to us. We learned that:
• Movie theatre does not receive any revenue from the selling of tickets at the box office.
• Big reliance on the selling of beverages and snacks. Revenue that comes from the concession stand pays for the rent, electricity bills, etc.
• Noted that the prices of the drinks and snacks are not something that can be adjusted. Compared to their competitor Niagara Adventure Theater they run at pretty similar prices.
• Noticed how a lot of people including the managers noted on how they would all like to see the price of tickets go down.
• As soon as you walk into the movie theatre building it’s quite obvious that it’s out of date. Recommend things like the wallpaper, floor, seats, and do some rearranging.
• Due to the fact that they are a publicly traded company they have a lot of stockholders.
IMAX:
• Seats are more profitable and more likely to sell out, but there are fewer seats.
• Some theatres do auxiliary carts- people consider it to be a disturbance having someone walking around during the movie, because of this they really are only able to do it at the very beginning. Also when they have enough

The company should capitalize on the fact that customers are committed to them but not rip them off. Customers need to be enticed to buy the largest possible seat capacity the first time they buy. You’re never 100% sure that they’re going to come back for upgrades. The price of the upgrades shouldn’t be lower than the…

Staggering movie times would mean less wait in the concession, people don’t like to wait and if you have 4 movies showing at the same time with 60 people at each showing, and if 25% of the people want concession foods, that could be 80 people waiting in line for a movie that starts in 10 min. It is less hassle for the movie theaters to stagger times for their concessions rather than all at the same time. A Mulitscreen theater showing helps the mall revenue. The malls always have a food court which while you are waiting or go window shopping could lead into people buying goods from the mall when they only wanted to go to the…

There are many norms for attending a movie theater. These include explicit norms, norms that have been openly written or spoken (Straker, 1) and implicit norms, norms that are understood but not precisely recorded (Kornblum, 59). Explicit or formal norms have clear rules for punishment. Creating a disruption during the movie is grounds for ejection from the theater. Most theaters openly state during the previews that cell phones need to be turned off and that talking should be kept to a minimum. Implicit or informal norms regulate seat selection…

    Airline Ticket Prices

Airlines have used numerous models and computer programs to manage revenue throughout time. These models and computer programs have become increasingly complex and expensive, over a million dollars. However, these older models and computer programs have been phased out due to the low-fare program that many airlines switched to for a while. “Low-fare carriers do have models to manage revenue, but they’re very simple: Prices tend to step up steadily as a flight date nears, and travelers who want flexibility — a refundable ticket, perhaps — pay more.” (NBC News, 2008) The problem with this marketing of tickets is that “locking buckets of seats into specific fares — left airlines with empty seats, losing money.” (NBC News, 2008) More airlines are using bidding wars to sale their tickets, increasing the price of the ticket over time. The highest bidder wins the ticket proving that people will pay for what they want. “The new system accommodates the proliferation of new ways to buy plane tickets, including discounters and online markets such as Priceline and Hotwire, which sell “distressed inventory” that airlines would otherwise write off.” (NBC News, 2008)…

The focus of my study is the interactions inside a nursing home environment. I observed the social interactions between the elders and nurses, elders and family, and elders among other elders. The reason why I decided to study this particular group of people was primarily because my grandma currently resides in a nursing home. I also wanted to observe how elders keep up with relationships and social interactions when living in a nursing home. Although my grandma was at the nursing home where I did my observations, I did not observe her as a subject.…

First and foremost, my neighborhood will expose to a new exciting atmosphere with the presence of the new movie theater. At present, there is no movie theater in my neighborhood. Without such a wonderful place for gathering and entertaining, people, especially youth like me, find our living place extremely boring. If the theater is built, children will have more chance to open their mind to the newest Disney’s movies, young couples are able to enjoy new films together, friends and colleges can share their relaxing moments after working and studying time, and family member might stay closer together watching meaningful movies. Needless to say, the people in my neighborhood will have better entertainment conditions, and that make their life become more interesting.…
