Abstract:
Humans have become so engrossed in this world of technology, and materialistic living, that they have forgotten the very basis of living in a moral and just society. Morality, respect, love, and basic upbringing have been thrown out the window on many occasions. In many cases, ethical dilemmas develop because of an individuals inability to harness these qualities. “Would I be willing for everyone in this situation to follow that rule all the time?” If the act conforms to the moral rule, it is permissible. If the act does not conform to the moral rule, it is prohibited (Butts & Rich, 2013). Based on the moral code of Deontology, which is described as an ethical theory that holds that there are certain rules that all individuals must follow in order to act morally. It establishes an obligation to act according to established duties regardless of our feelings. This duty-based approach to moral reasoning means that they apply to everyone, everywhere, and always; never sacrificing another’s welfare for our own good or the good of others without the other party choosing it (Butts, 2013). One of the primary shortcomings of this code is that there is no clear understanding as to what one’s duty should be. However, based on the fundamental ethical principle of beneficence, which is mainly an agreement to act in the best interest of the patient, it is clear to say that this principle remains more important than self-interest. Based on the evidence provided in this paper, one can safely state that the nurse has to report this incident in order to prevent another mishap being in the fault of a staff member, all members of the staff, in this case, would have to be disciplined and counseled. Everyone, including the managemental staff, is affected by the action this nurse plans to take. In the worst case scenario, if Mr. Hart dies and no report was made based on Justin’s negligence then the fault would lie on the nurse who had noticed the error, even the doctor who has neglected to even read Justin’s chart didn’t notice this error.
