New York has a very egalitarian approach to fashion, unlike other big cities like London, nobody cares too much about designer labels here. The US is much cheaper than the UK and Europe, it gives me a real thrill to be endlessly shopping without breaking the bank. I can honestly say even if I was a millionaire, I couldn't shop anymore than I do now, I am not deprived of anything. Except maybe the Kate Moss Collection for Topshop which sold out within an hour of debuting at Barneys New York. All is not lost however, I will probably go the online route as it is available at www.topshop.com and they ship to the US, although the exchange rate is what will kill you, it is about 2 US dollars to 1 pound sterling. It's springtime and a great way to start the season is a day-trip to Woodbury Commons, http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7, the world's largest outlet mall . This is an all-day event so my girlfriends and I will probably get a rental car or find a very patient friend who will shop with us until closing time at 9pm. Apart from the outlets, the best deals are the sales in the regular stores where the merchandise is more up-to-date than the stuff at the outlets and at sale time I do not hesitate to go the online route if I cannot get what I want

She holds a bunch of daffodils and anemones, and the basket contains daffodils, narcissus, and anemones. These individually hand-made flowers vary from edition to edition. Eventually the flowers became mainly daffodils with a varying amount of anemones in the basket. As noted, the decoration usually centres on the orange shawl, the dress with varying stripes of blue, yellow and green, occasionally red. A distinct variation occurs in the version with the large apron, and has orange stripes overlain with dark blue chevrons. A complete change is the blue shawl from, which appears in the larger apron versions, tied and edged with yellow. The dress has stripes of varying widths and shades of blue, with more white shown between the stripes. The figure painter has clearly defined the buttons and buttonholes of the bodice, creating a light and homogenous design. From 1923 to 1925 the Vyses’ produced the versions as…

A major element of both the female and male high society garments illustrated in the portraits of Mary Lady Scudamore and Dudley North is the meticulous embroidery. The black embroidery of Mary Lady Scudamore’s skirt is accentuated against the bright red cloth, while the silver accents glisten against the deep black foundation of Dudley’s jacket. The skill and time needed to stitch such detailed designs meant that these garments were most likely made in professional workshops where it took several months and many different people to make the piece. The Victoria and Albert Museum, in London, is home to a jacket, similar to the one worn by Mary Lady Scudamore, known as ‘The Layton Jacket’ (Figure Five). The jacket is believed to be made in the early seventeenth century, so is…

The rest was basic. It was set this way in order to make the teachers and students more comfortable and trusting of each other. It was enforced in the normal way through school policy and kids were sent to the office if they were dressed bad and were given a different outfit to wear.…

This is a very elegant looking gown. It consists of mainly different shades of purples. The bodice of the gown consists of a layer of tightly attached silk, covered in jewels and rhinestones. The top of the bodice has a bow shaped pattern attached. This draws your eyes to the top of the bodice. By having the bow on the top of the bodice the same material as the bottom of the gown, it shows how the designer has reused used materials in an effective way. The bottom of the gown is made of a purple shade of silk. Alex Perry has designed the bottom of this dress so that the layers are given with a multiple layering effect; make the gown look ‘fuller’. This photo has been taken with the layers…

It has a lace applique bodice with detailing symbolising the nations of the United Kingdom. It was made of satin and featured a lace applique bodice and skirt. The lace bodice design was hand-made using a technique that originated in Ireland in the 1820s called carriskmacross, which involved cutting out rose detailing (symbolising england), thistles (scotland), daffodils (wales), and shamrocks (irland), individually applying them to the ivory silk tulle. These lace appliques were hand-made by the royal school of needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace.…
