Essay On Student Athletes Should Be Paid

Going to college is a amazing event, you get to meet new people and have experiences you want to have. One of the major problems for many students is paying for their college tuition. Many students will take out loans, apply for scholarships, and have parents pay for college. If a student play a sport in high school and are lucky enough to get drafted to play for a college you might get a full ride.Many colleges will profit off of their athletes not give their student athletes anything in return. So one of the biggest questions is should student athletes be paid more than just scholarships? My opinion like many others say that they should get paid for playing sports. Big name schools like Ohio State University, Notre Dame,and Syracuse University are known for their sports program which brings in a lot of money and notoriety for the school. Research will show that the more a school goes to Championships games they will make billions of dollars from ticketing and merchandise alone. The National Collegiate Athletic Association or the NCAA states that school aren't financially able to pay student for playing sports.
Some student athletes even went to court about this situation and how it's unfair that they are not treated like employees at the school even though they bring in a lot a money. In a Supreme Court ruling in 1984 the NCAA is allowed to grant students a scholarship and a small living expense and the NCAA will use this as a counter to protect themselves from paying student athletes.There are cases now fighting for student athletes to be viewed as employees of the college, and if the case favors the student athlete the college month provide benefits for them. Which Will leave the schools and the NCAA less money. As for now student athletes are not look as employees and cannot be paid as such but many fans do agree this will help the industry(
