What is the purpose of using steroids? “Steroids are for guys who want to cheat opponents.” (Lawrence Taylor.) Steroids are a family of hormones related to testosterone that have a number of beneficial medical indications. They are also used for the purpose of building up muscles and cellular tissue. The use of steroids should be banned in the United States because over time, athletes began abusing the prescribed dosages and ignoring the health risks of prolonged steroid use, it establishes unrealistic achievement levels, and it is a violation of good sportsmanship. First, over time athletes began abusing the prescribed dosages and ignoring the health risks of prolonged steroid use. “Clinical studies on steroids have shown side effects that range from the mildly unpleasant to the life threatening” (Chittom. & Griswold. 2016). “Some of the more serious side effects include dangerous increases in cholesterol levels, elevated risks for both heart attack and stroke, as well as permanent …show more content…

    The usage of steroids gives the user an unfair advantage over other athletes that have worked hard to gain muscle mass without using steroids. It is easy for someone to cheat and win. With steroids, you are tricking your body. You are creating something that is not you, and that is why you are cheating. It is estimated that as many as six million Americans have used or currently use steroids. It is unbelievable that somebody could somehow live more easily and more pleasantly because of chemicals.
