Discovering a career that you love is sometimes very difficult. There are certain requirements and skills a person needs to pursue a specific career. Careers in social work are very important to the betterment of society. There are a variety of specialty practices in the field of social work. These specialty areas include mental health child welfare, and elder care just to name a few. A career in social work requires an interest in helping other, being emotionally mature, and having problem-solving skills.

A very important trait that an individual needs to possess to become a social worker is an interest in helping others. Social Workers are required to analyze situations and assist people in finding solutions to life’s challenges. “Social worker have to deal with other people’s problems all of the time, so if one wishes to have this career he or she needs to have this skill of problem solving” (Prescott). Social worker sometimes need to be able to come up with a step-by-step plan that to help their clients, with their problem. Without problem-solving skills, it would be impossible for a social worker to help, because the basis of the type of job is to find solutions to difficult situations.

In conclusion, a career in social work requires individuals to have an interest in helping other, being emotionally mature, and having problem-solving skills. Becoming a social worker is not easy and it requires an individual to obtain the necessary education and life skills.
