Crisis Assistance Ministry was created in 1975 as a place of financial recovery for families in urgent financial crisis. Today our mission remains the same:
• addressing the immediate crisis with emergency rent and utility assistance, clothing, household goods, furniture and appliances.
• providing counseling, services and support to give families the tools they need to move toward financial stability.
• educating the community about the realities of poverty in Mecklenburg County.

Our ability to help Charlotte's working poor is the direct result of community support. Crisis Assistance Ministry is a unique public-private partnership that uses a combination of public and private dollars to provide emergency financial assistance in the form of payment directly to rent and utility vendors. More than 94% of every dollar we receive goes directly to programs.
Caring community members contribute more than 50,000 volunteer hours annually and donate thousands of clothing and furniture items to support families living in poverty. Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals and groups, both youth and adult. We invite you to use your talents, gifts, and resources to help our neighbors overcome poverty and move toward financial stability.
Socio-economic: People that may have been put out of their jobs due to whatever reason it may be, need clothes in order to keep themselves warm or to adapt to the climate changes. Especially homeless people who literally cannot get money on their own. So the free store distributes clothing amongst other things that they can
