Essay Everyone Should Be Paid
Throughout the years tragedies happen left and right, and people have been arguing “what is a life worth?”. I believe that each life value should be based on the individual's income/job. People earn their own money and the amount should stay the same when they die. The amount would stay the same so the families can carry on with their normal lives. Some say each life should be valued equally. But, a person who went to college and worked hard for their money shouldn't be paid the same as someone that works at burger king. For example, every person earns their own money/income so should be paid the same after death. “ the government will estimate how much a victim would have earned over his or her lifetime had the lanes never crashed. That means a broker’s family will qualify for a vastly higher award than a window washer’s family”(Ripley 2). I agree that each family should be paid based on what the person's occupation was. They should not be paid more or less than what they had before their death. Another example, People with college degree jobs should be paid more than lower education jobs. “That means different sums for different families” (Ripley 2). Each family will be paid different amounts according to the person's job/income. People …show more content…
“In a TIME/CNN poll taken last month, 86 percent said all families should receive the same amount” (Ripley 2). Yes the majority voted for equal pay but, it just doesn't make sense to do that because everyone has different values when it comes to life.” to estimate, each family was handed an easy-to-read chart on the way into the meeting: find your loved one’s age and income and follow your finger to the magic number” (Ripley 2). I disagree with the thought that everyone is equally when it comes to compensation for life insurance. Each person has a different life, different job, different everything, why should they be paid that same after

Over the past decades, what has continued to be one of the most debatable issues in the world of sports is whether or not college football players should get paid. My honest opinion is football that players should receive a certain proportion of money because of the service that college athletes provide to the institution they attend. In addition, they should be rewarded in a reasonable manner after putting their bodies out on the line, bringing in a tremendous amount of money, it will help with the football athletes to begin creating a sense of financial awareness, and finally it will attract more talented athletes.…

Today, college athletes are working every day, 24/7. These athletes are working day in and out to sure that they meet academic standards and also to keep up with their sport when they’re playing competitive. They not being rewarded or credited for their achievements. They are also living with no money. Since these athletes are living off with no money, they are tempting to take the money from their sports booster club or others donation that are helping them. The problem with this is that athletes are not only getting themselves in trouble but also getting their athletic departments in trouble as well.…

Imagine this: you are in the military force, you risk your life on a day-to-day basis for our country's freedom. If you survive fighting, you sleep on an uncomfortable, rock hard bed and eat nauseating food. You work your tail off, yet you actually make less than the average American does yearly. Now, take into perspective, perhaps a professional boxer: they may risk their lives, but it's for our entertainment, not for our safety. When they are done wrestling, they go back to their five star hotels and eat gourmet food. They train, and yes, they may have worked hard to get to where they are, but they're out here making millions per fight, which is way more than what the average American makes. Look closer, should an entertainer really get paid such a profound amount for one fight, rather than those who work to…

Does $5.15 million per year sound like a lot? Yes, this is an average NBA basketball players annually wage. This may sound like a lot of money but many people say the military should make this much too. This is not possible. Our military gets paid from tax income of the country. The United States gets $3.7 trillion in income tax. If you divided that among all the soldiers and pay them what pros get paid, this is how much it would be. It would be 7.8063324e+12, that's a lot. My main three reasons for thinking pros should get paid more than soldiers are not enough money, just as much training, and they get paid from different sources. Athletes get paid from millions of fans ,and military gets paid from the United States defense budget.…

Throughout the years, many colleges have dealt with much controversy over whether or not athletes should be paid additionally to play sports in college. There are strong arguments supporting both sides of this issue. I believe there is validity for both sides of this argument. However, through research I have done it is my belief that it is dangerous to pay college athletes in addition to their scholarships. Paying college athletes would be harmful for everyone involved, especially for the student athletes themselves.…

Every parent wants their children to get a scholarship to attend college. It is estimated that a four-year college degree can cost over $100,000. Receiving scholarship money sometimes is the only way a student is able to attend college. Scholarships can pay for your academic, housing and athletic needs. A major discussion made today is about paying student-athletes to play for a college. College athletics have become a big time business especially in football and men’s basketball. According to the NCAA, a team participating in this year’s Men’s Basketball Tournament could earn nearly $1.67 million. That is a large amount of money for a school’s athletic budget that is earned through the talent of college athletes. Depending on the success of a college team…

People all over America and the world are consumed with watching athletes perform in their various sports. Both male and female athletes compete at such incredible levels that require physical talent and drive. Professional athletes are known to get paid salaries that reflect their talent and abilities. Regardless of gender, professional athletes are drafted to receive professional pay. However, equal pay for male and female athletes with the same credentials does not occur today. There is a belief that male athletes are worth more than female athletes and are better at promoting themselves. Also, women salaries are lower because of their gender and are not based on their performance. Although audiences seem more excited watching men sports, this does not mean men should get paid more. Men should not be paid more than female athletes who have similar talent and credentials.…

Raising the minimum wage and getting paid more sounds like a great idea. Who wouldn’t want to have more money? While it may be cool to raise the minimum wage and get paid more money, it has it’s downsides. Minimum wage is the least amount of money an employer can give to their workers. We are talking about minimum wage because it is very important in our economy. People have been trying to raise the minimum wage. While some may argue that raising the minimum wage would help those who don’t have enough money to buy resources, the US should not raise the minimum wage because it will result in people losing their jobs and things getting more expensive.…

I was surprised when the family did not get the death benefit check. Obviously Smith-Yackel’s mother worked very hard during her life, but all her hard work was not considered “work” because she did not bring-in an income from a public job to her family. Just because the government does not consider her time and labor to be equivalent to a “job”, it does not mean she did not do anything to provide for her family. She had to work extremely hard for her farm and family to survive: all the animals and children needed tending and the only way for this to happen was for Smith-Yackel’s mother to work vigorously on the farm and in the house. To the social security office, this was not considered a sufficient “job” because she was not recognized as an employee who paid social security benefits in the eyes of the government, even though she worked long hard hours and raised a family while taking care of a farm.…

There are about 3 million workers in the United States that worked full time year round last year and still fell below the National poverty level. If everyone earns exactly the same amount of money, then the income distribution would be perfectly equal. If no one earns any money except for one person, who earns all of the money, then the income distribution would be perfectly unequal.…

Yet in allocation and economic terms, this does not appear to be fair or sensible. Granted, the argument here could be that it doesn’t matter how much each person gets provided they all reach old age that is what is meant by equal opportunity – therefore the 60 year old is lucky to have never had to utilise the healthcare system in the past, while the young adult born with disease should be supported to reach a certain age as she was more disadvantages to begin with. However this would no longer be an argument of “equal opportunity” and treating people equally, instead it is simply favouring the young and worst-off.…
