Essay Discussion

In my writing experience, I have come across several types of essays that have worked to build my language, grammar and even creativity. Some of these essays have been interesting and fun to work on whereas some have not been all that rosy. All in all, they effectively fulfilled the purpose that they were meant to do in my learning process. The hardest essay that I wrote was the formal letter. However, the easiest essay was the compare/contrast essay.

Among the four essays learnt, the formal letter was the most difficult. This difficulty was majorly due to the fact that the formal letter requires a lot of formal procedures and formatting styles. Also, it had so many instructions that had to be adhered to in order for the essay or letter in this case to be correct. Moreover, it had some details such as where to place commas and full stops in the addresses that were easily confused or forgotten if the writer was not precise. This made the essay quite difficult.

On the other hand, the easiest essay to write was the compare/contrast essay. Indeed, this essay was basically easy to write because it generally had a lot of points since one had to write about two parties. Furthermore, most compare/contrast essays entailed things that we already had prior knowledge about or things that were basically general understanding such as comparison between life in the city and life in a rural setting. That kind of essay was quite easy and interesting to work on.

Overall, the most difficult essay that I wrote about was the formal essay because of the long procedures and sort of specific details which I struggled with. In contrast, the compare/ contrast essay was the easiest one due to past background about the things I had to write about. In fact, it was my favorite essay

Compare and contrast essays are characterized by a basis for comparison, points of comparison, and analogies. It is grouped by object (chunking) or by point (sequential). Comparison highlights the similarities between two or more similar objects while contrasting highlights the differences between two or more objects. When writing a compare/contrast essay, writers need to determine their purpose, consider their audience, consider the basis and points of comparison, consider their thesis statement, arrange and develop the comparison, and reach a conclusion. Throughout this course, I have learned many things about myself as a writer. The most interesting thing that I learned about myself is that I like writing straight to the point. If a question is present, I like to answer it with little details as possible. I like to include all the important information and continue on with the essay. In the future, I can learn to be more detailed with my work which will have a more effective communication with readers. As for difficulty, I have always had trouble with creating cohesive papers. I tend to write whatever is on my mind when writing my essays, and as I write, sometimes my thoughts can be unorganized. I have learned that after writing my essays, I will go back and switch around my work to organize my thoughts more efficiently. I enjoy writing straight to the…

Thought my middles school years , essays were simple. I wrote essays , just like i wrote computer programs, and i would still revive a good grade. My essays were very robotic, and lacked creativity, as well as structure, but as long as the paper met requirements thats all that mattered. I thought that this was great , i didn't have to try to hard to recive a good grade on an essay, but I was in for a rude awakening. These three years of middle school did not prepare me for the rigors of high school english.…

Essay writing was a major part of the class. We wrote essay on race and ethnicity, gay matters, language technique essays. Each essay taught us about a different style or form of writing. Comparison and contrast essays taught us how to write an essay comparing two similar things. This type of essay was my favorite to write. In my essay I compared the careers of Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. The most difficult essay for me to write was the argument essay in which we were to defend a point using strong argument skills. For my argument essay I supported the argument that rap music is music of resistance. I can honestly say my essay skills have improved tremendously over the course of this year thanks to the many skills learned in this class.…

    In My Opinion

In my opinion, personal essays are easier to write, one of the big reasons why is purely because I can have an opinion. Sure, you can have an opinion when writing a research paper but it’s very limited and your opinion then is pretty much mute. For personal essays you are able to write what you know, and feel, so that makes your writing much easier because you can be passionate and knowledgeable about what you are writing down. Another thing, personal essays are capable of going so many ways with writing style, that you are always able to put something new into your essay. I feel that a personal essay will always come out better than a research essay, because the writer puts a lot more feeling into it.…
