Everyday there are 30.5 million lunches served at over 100,000 schools. Even though there are a lot of lunches being sold, according to http://schoolnutrition.org, but most of the food is wasted because students don't like the food or size isn't big enough. This is a problem I've noticed at my school, Bellmont High School. The school lunches at Bellmont need to be rethought and they need to change the menu and possibly the price. One problem with Bellmont High School's lunch is if you want to choose to eat healthier and eat salad bar it costs more then the hot lunch does. The hot lunch costs $2.55 while the salad bar costs $2.75 and you get a lot less food. You only get a small bowl for salad and a small bowl for yogurt or soup. If you want chips or snacks they range from $0.50 to $1.50 which is too much extra, it even costs $0.50 for a water, which I think should be free. Although it's a bit more pricy, the salad
Many students say that the food isn't good, the vegetables have no flavor, the fries are mostly sweet potatoes which don't taste good, the buns for hamburgers are whole wheat, and there aren't really any desserts served. Maybe they could add some butter to the vegetables, and serve normal fries along with the sweet potato fries, and maybe serve little cups of ice cream or small pieces of cake or brownies, they could add or change some food items. A counter argument would be that many people say that serving healthy food with school lunches will help the obese students lose weight. First of all, the school can't control what students eat at home. Also they aren't helping them if they don't eat the food, if they don't like it they will more then likely throw it away.
