A Life-Long Learner
How does a private school education benefit me in life? It helps me be a life-long learner. I am a life-long learner as I have become a writer, critical thinker, and seeker of new experiences.
I am a writer! I have written poems, letters and essays. I have developed a skill in writing on how to punctuate correctly. The things I have learned in academic writing is how to write a hook, three point thesis, and three body paragraphs for the thesis. My new goals in writing are to come up with new ideas to write about and elaborate on those ideas in addition to using commas correctly. Writing will help my future with high school, college, and employment since essays, and communication will be necessary for all stages of my life. Writing essays can show how creative I am, and learning math will show how well developed my critical thinking skills are.
I’m a critical thinker. I think critically in algebra because I have to solve problems and equations that include variables. I have developed an understanding of the basics of algebra; I can solve and go through new lessons before they are taught. I have learned that in algebra, I have to understand the basics of every lesson to understand new concepts and skills. My new goals in math are to solve new concepts in better timing while getting correct answers. Math will help me in the future because it will help me in my studies for my career goal of being an architect. Being a good critical thinker can help me to be ready for new experiences in my life and to enjoy these experiences to the fullest.
New experiences make up the person I am today. I have had new experiences during my recent years at Our Lady’s School; during 6th grade I experienced 6th grade camp, during 7th grade I experienced Medieval Times and a trip to the San Diego Zoo, lastly, during 8th grade I experienced a service project with Catholic Charities and 8th grade retreat at Whispering Winds. I have developed a love for new experiences because it helps me grow spiritually, socially, and environmentally. The things I have learned from new experiences are how to work together as a team to get the job done, to be grateful for what I have and to not limit myself when it comes to my goals. My goals for new experiences are to have more events that help me grow to become a better person. New experiences will help me in the future by allowing me to be open to diversity and to have different thoughts in new situations.
In conclusion, an education helps me in the long run with career choices and in making my life goals. Although education itself can be difficult, a Catholic education reminds me of who I am, who I can become, and helps me discover who I want to be.

After watching a few commercials from this year’s Super Bowl Football game, the one that caught my eye the most was the 2012 Chevy Silverado Apocalypse. It was humorous, creative, and got the point across to the audience. Compared to the other commercials of this year’s Super Bowl those were the qualities that stuck out more so. The commercial effective with the way it played out and was well set up.…

To understand the universality of human nature we can explore common traits and characteristics, many of which are prevalent in Jane Yolen's novel, Briar Rose. Yolen produces a very powerful and complex novel exploring the emotional aftermath of the Holocaust. Yolen has intertwined the facts of the Holocaust with the story of Briar Rose, a traditional fairy tale, in order to speak about the Holocaust without having to go into the historical detail of the experience. Yolen whose background is Jewish has previously written a novel detailing the Holocaust, uses Briar Rose as an extension of her work. Significant aspects of human nature that Yolen focuses on include the courage and heroism of the character Josef as he expresses the power of survival, the ability of Gemma to cope with her history and memories from the Holocaust and the journey of Becca to unravel the truth of her grandmothers past and therefore her identity.…

Adding to the articles provided in the class, I chose “Walmart Mexico Bribery Case” and “Walmart Offers Jobs to Veterans”. Reading these articles, I once more thought that Walmart is a huge company. Walmart employs about 1.4 million people in the United States. They operate more than 10,800 retail units under 69 banners in 27 countries. In 2013, the magazine ‘Fortune’ ranked Walmart as a biggest company in the United States. These numbers all show that Walmart is a large company and it is hard to operate. Walmart have a central office in Arkansas, and the chief executive and board member make all the important decisions and policy of the company. However, if the company has so many employees and the shops, it is difficult to control all the employees. Thus in the ‘Pollutant Dumping Case’, the Walmart California store improperly disposed hazardous waste. The central office had a comprehensive and industry-leading hazardous waste program, but this issue made it clear that some of the workers were not aware how to handle hazardous waste. Additionally, the other article was about the Walmart protest movement. At first, I did not know about the OUR Walmart, but I was surprised to find this organization. I could not find out how big the organization is, but the existence of OUR Walmart itself tells us that Walmart have many workers and the worker’s opinion is hard to reach to the chief executive. As a result they make protest movements to claim for better wages and improved working conditions. All in all, the recent Walmart issue is the evidence that the central office is struggling to control all of the shops in the U.S. and the other countries. All of the big companies with shops in many locations will suffer to manage the workers. To solve this problem it is necessary to make manual, guidelines, instructions, hotlines, help lines, and audits. If the company failed to make these systems and have a high commitment with the top manager, the…
