What is it like to be a teenager in America in today’s world? Teenagers today don’t take for granted how lucky they really are. However, there are many teens that live in a fantasy world. This is shown in, “Teenagers in Dreamland” by Robert J. Samuelson. With new technology coming out everyday, many teens have become lazy with schoolwork and their everyday lives. Teenagers today need to understand that they need to get good grades in high school, learn the value of money by having a part time job, and learn how to properly use technology for the greatest benefit. While there are a percent of teenagers that do well in school, many do not. The average high school student puts in less than an hour of studying at home. A survey that was conducted placed 13 year old American is last place compared to six different countries; Korea being the first. When I was in high school, I honestly never put in any effort for the work I did. I would skip class everyday just to slack off and hang out with friends in the cafeteria. When I was in high school, grades didn’t matter to me. At the time I thought my grades didn’t matter for college, I would just get accepted to the school I wanted to go too. That was not the case; after I graduated high school my choice of schools was very limited. Now, that I’m out of high school, I regret not doing well everyday of my life. Today, I give advice to people in high school to do well and get good grades. Your only in high school once, you need to get the most out of it. As for other teenage Americans, High school is very important. You need to do well in high school to go on the a good college and get a good education. As time moves on, people start to become independent working civilians in the world. In America, teenagers are becoming more and more independent. By high school, the majority of teens have there own cars and cell phones. Not all American teens are lazy. By junior year, about 40% for teens have there own jobs and incomes. I have been working since the age of 14 when I first got my middle school working papers. My first job was detailing cars at a car wash and once I turned 16 I worked at toys r us. I feel that it is good for all teens to get jobs in high school. Ever since I was a kid my dad always taught me how to save my money. I owe my dad for everything I am today because of this. Throughout high school, I worked and saved my money, invested it, and made a significant profit off of it. Teens’ working in high school teaches responsibility. It shows that you need money for everything in life. While some kids are lucky and get spoiled by there parents, those kids will never understand the value of money and the satisfaction of working up to the things you want. In some cases, parents feel that school is a teens job and that working is not important. No matter what parents think, I high school job is important to teach teenagers the value of money. Technology plays an important role in every teenagers life. In high school, whoever had the newest phone or the fastest car was more important than the best grades as a student. Because of new technology, teens have become more lazy. In todays world, it is not uncommon for six year olds to have iPhones and iPads. Even I have to admit, technology has mad me a lazy person. Literally everything can be found with an iPhone. I never have to move if I want to find something out on the internet. I can also get wifi almost anywhere I am. My Xbox now has the Netflix app so I have an unlimited amount of movies and T.V. shows whenever I want. If this is how advanced technology is today, picture what it will be like 10 years from now. Teenagers in America today have it easy. They have the greatest technology and get to grow up in the greatest country in the world. However, teens today are becoming lazy due to new technology, slacking off with grades in high school, and the few that don’t find high school jobs to teach them the values of hard work and money.

The voyages of discovery and of the new world were promoted by many factors economically, technologically, politically, and religiously. In the years from about 1450 to 1525 there were many reasons as to why explorations were aided by the main four factors that were previously stated. Advancements in astronomy and navigation were big technological factors. Countries were gaining little income, causing them to go and search for ways to become prosperous was an economic factor. The marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella that unified Castile and Aragon was a major political factor. The desire for Christianizing people of the new world was a huge religious factor. All of these factors were a cause of, and motivated, European exploration.…

Nomads were wanderers that had no technical home. Four groups of nomads were the Turks, Afghan and Seljuk, the Vikings, the Mongols, and the Huns. When the Mongols went to Europe, they brought the Bubonic Plague; they caused the reunification of the Russians, and helped start Pax Mongolica. They allowed the conquered to keep their ways of life and religions as long as they obeyed the foreign rulers. The decentralization of Japan and Western Europe was helpful and a hindrance by being more organized, using feudalism and causing more chaos.…

Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, was alienated from her society for committing adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale. The bible says the man who commits adultery will suffer, and he will be in despair. Job 15:20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 says “All his days the wicked man suffers torment, ... Terrifying sounds fill his ear; ...He despairs of escaping the darkness;...Distress and anguish fill him with terror; they overwhelm him, ...because he shakes his fist at God...” Reverend Dimmesdale struggled with God throughout the whole novel, and God causes him suffering and pain.…

The use of implied powers changed the division of power that existed before they existed because it essentially granted the division of powers more power. Implied powers are those that are not specifically stated in the constitution, but it is assumed that if ever needed, Congress or the Supreme Court has the power to add in a rule or law when necessary. Since the Founding Father’s could not anticipate every possible problem that would arise in the following decades and centuries, they had no way of creating a rule for every possible outcome. So they incorporated the enumerated powers, or the implied powers, in the event a situation did occur that was not explicity stated and covered in the Constitution. The addition of implied powers in turn made the central, or federal government more powerful because it gives them the ability to address certain, and or unusual circumstances. Implied powers also give the federal government more power than state government because the federal government is able to rule on each different scenario at their own descretion, as long as it is justifiable. The court case that allowed the use of implied powers was McCulloch versus Maryland in 1819. Basically, the case was wheather or not the government had the right to create a second natioanl bank, and that the state of Maryland could not tax the bank. It is no where blatently stated in the Constitution that have the the government just had to create a second national bank, but with the use of implied powers under the necessary and proper clause, it was deemed as justifiable.…

Today’s society has put a confusing spin on the need for higher education. Are we, as students, looking to simply walk out of the doors of a university and into a guaranteed job opportunity, or are we forgetting what the value of an education means? It seems to me that the lines between the definition of getting a degree and getting an education are very blurry. Another factor affecting our views on education is that society has changed; the downturn of today’s economy has affected many people’s choices, especially when it comes to choosing what path they choose for their future. Employers today are changing what they value: job experience or an education. Both of these choices will contribute differently to society. Also, the high cost of going to college will have you asking yourself, is the amount of money worth it, or a better question, am I worth it? We need to ask ourselves, what are you working for? Are you working for a degree to gain employment, or are you working for an education that gives you the many tools to becoming a vital citizen? All of these factors: the loose definition of what education means, our ever-changing society, and the rising cost of tuition, has forced students to re-think their futures as possible graduates. I would argue, to better our struggling economy, we need to be working to better ourselves in the larger sense of our education.…

The distinctions of the new generation are as easy to see, as will readily be observed in many aspects. From the role teenagers play in their families to the way they earn their livings; from the language they now use to their thoughtlessness and what we view as profane. In response to changes around them, teens now find themselves playing a different role then what they used to. Children once were expected to either work on the farm with their family, or spend their time working in the local grocery store, or run the errands. Now children are mostly…

This century has brought significant changes to the world. Technological progress has boosted both mobility and industrial production levels, while globalization has enhanced communication around the world and made socio-political ideologies exchanges possible. For example, one can refer to the political revolutions in different parts of the globe; the Arab Spring and the continuing political upheaval in Syria, in particular. Taking these, and many other factors, into consideration, one could say that social processes today and those about a hundred years ago, are almost incomparable. At the same time, particular social groups, such as teenagers, become overexposed to the effects of these socio-political and technological changes. This fact can be easily noticed when evaluating modern youths’ preoccupations, hobbies and behavior, as well as analyzing how they use leisure time, compared to their counterparts a century ago. This paper compares the daily lives of today’s teenagers and the lives of teenagers a century ago.…
