English 100 Class
On January 20th, 2016, my life changed because of my English 100 class. My disgusted feeling for writing had to be retained within my soul because of the everyday morning journals. Two days a week at 5:30am in the morning, I had to write a page or two about a book or subject in class. Painfully difficult to do, I eventually overcame my hate for writing. Journals became breakfast, participation became lunch, and essays were my dinner. My heart and soul went into my writing and in doing so my writing became powerful. I finally realized through “I am Malala”, that your voice on paper has a substantial impact on your audience. The strict grading policy provided through Denny Bozmen-Moss helped the organization and punctuation in my journals and …show more content…
Finally, when I got my grade on the paper I was overjoyed with happiness. I immediately went to the gym after class and worked out. The feeling of immortality was overthrown by the last paper announced, the Late-Midterm Exam. This paper was an easy “A”, but it also felt like an easy “F”. The letter grade received was an “A”, but I actually thought I was going to get a worst grade. The questions were easy but slightly challenging. I had to use the internet to assistance me with my paper because the fear of lacking information haunted me. Overall the essays were written this semester progressively improved due to the help of my professor and the writing lab. Journals were difficult to do in the beginning of the semester, but over time I started to enjoy writing. Each journal was different and unique in their own way. I successful reached each word count for the journals and I was surprised. Around 3,000 words in 4-5 weeks was absolutely amazing. I underestimated myself on how good and consistent I was at writing. The grade received on my journals is maybe an “A”.I would be ecstatic if that was the grade, though. I attendance class almost every day to write a new and interesting …show more content…
Besides those two days, I attended class every day with a smile on my face and I desire to write. My smile fell off only on days that included a quiz. These quizzes were extremely hard and confusing to complete. The questions were very specific and somewhat hidden in books read. I did poorly on the quizzes and probably received a “C” on the overall grade of them. Despite the quizzes, I was excited about the discussion leaders of the

    Truth be told, it’s been a few years since the last time I walked into a writing extensive course like English 1302. The last time that I sat in front of a computer, and slaved away for hours trying to create the perfect paper was in 2011, during my first semester at Texas Tech. It was English 101, and people had that it’s a class that I should not take lightly, but of course I thought I knew better. Let’s just say that I figured out, I was not the greatest writer in the world after all, but high school definitely made me think I was. Before I entered into my first semester of college level English, it was not unordinary for me to write a paper that received applause from teachers all the way through senior year. I wrote essays on books, such as the “The Great Gatsby” to critically breaking apart poems. One assignment that I remember vividly was my critical summary over Robert Frost’s Poem, “The Road Less Traveled”. Alas, those easy days are gone. Most of my time now is spent typing up emails to staff and teachers. Since I have been enrolled at Texas Tech, I have worked in Texas Tech’s School of Law in the Administrative Office. Much my work is behind a screen typing up emails. It has taught me a lot, so I feel as though I’ve become pretty proficient when it comes to writing up formal messages or relaying information in a professional way.     I see some rare and different qualities between the characters in these stories. First, in “The Rocking Horse Winner” the main character Paul is the son of two unlucky parents. This is shown as Paul overhears his mother talking about her unlucky streak. The young boy then starts seeing luck as money because if money and luck bring happiness, they must somehow be intertwined. In the story, it is this mindset that pushes Paul over the edge to become some sort of hero. The mother does not love Paul, much as described in the story, but when she sees the change in Paul for the worse she immediately begins to worry as most mothers would for a suffering son. The father of Paul is mentioned, but they do not say much about him, except he works in town and previously had a gambling problem.     Throughout the semester, the Year Eight class have studied figurative language, Shakespeare, persuasive and narrative writing, as well as reviewing the role punctuation plays in ensuring clarity in writing. Chloe is a very friendly and capable student who has consistently produced work of a solid Year Eight standard. She can sometime allow herself to be distracted in class, this means that she often runs out of time to effectively edit her work. As a result of this she sometimes misses punctuation and grammatical errors that could have easily been corrected.
