Ending The Embargo In The US Chambers Of Commerce
We the US Chambers of Commerce feel that it is in the best interest of both the US and Cuba to bury the hatchet. The US and Cuba have had bad blood since the 1960s when the Eisenhower Administration banned trading between Cuba and US except medicine and food. There were many reasons for the embargo like communism in Cuba, Cuba taxing American products heavily, and Cuba allowing the Soviet Union to build missiles bases in Cuba which ultimately resulted in the Cuban Missle Crisis. It is absurd in today's age to be scared of communism in Cuba when the US trades with most of Asia. Ending the embargo will only benefit both Cuba and the US economically dramatically. As a member of the US Chambers of Commerce, we would like to see the progress between Cuba and the US continue, and eventually end this absurd argument. …show more content…
Ending the embargo will allow US businesses to expand over to Cuba and vice versa. We are doing everything in our power to make sure that the embargo ends like making the U.S.-Cuba Business Council that is working tirelessly to make sure both countries are aware of trading avenues. We have helped in Cuba having 43 pay-for-wireless zones throughout the country, dropping the price 2 dollars, also reducing the control the Cuban government has Cuban businesses. Five hundred thousands Cubans now employed in the private sector, plus the first 6 months of 2015 saw 127 percent increase in the number of registered hotel and restaurant cooperatives. This ban of trade is affecting The US Chambers of Commerce because every day that this embargo is still up the US and Cuban businesses lose

    Since 1962 the United States has implemented an embargo on Cuba, justifying it in the context of protecting the United States from the dangers of communism. This 50 year embargo has several original goals.     First of all, history is survival of the fittest. Basically history of mankind is of stronger people subduing weaker people. We must annex territory otherwise it is in jeopardy of Spanish colonial rule. If we do not annex foreign land someone else will. Cuba is our neighbor. It is a stone’s throw away from the State of Florida. Is it right to ignore the plight of the people of Cuba? They have been fighting for their freedom and independence almost continuously since 1878. The Spanish Empire has committed many unspeakable acts on this island since the fighting began. The Spanish Empire is mistreating our neighbors in Cuba. It is well within our Monroe Doctrine tradition to ask that Spain give up the control of Cuba so that the United States would maintain the proper sphere of influence in the Western Hemisphere. Cuban refugees in South Florida can tell us firsthand how terrible it is to live under the yoke of Spanish rule. We, Americans, must help the Cubans so that they can enjoy their freedom. I prefer that America be their protector instead of a ruthless European nation. Besides, having an oversea territory or two will expand our markets. Almost every European power has an oversea colony or two for their economic benefits. Why can’t the United States have one, too? I am not worried about being called ‘hypocrites.’ The point is that America should not let opportunities slip away when she has a chance to own a territory overseas. When we possess those territories, American goods can be sold there. It’s a win-win situation for all involved. Hawaii and the United States entered into a friendly treaty back in 1875. The agreement was that we buy their sugar without tariff. In exchange, we would have the right to Pearl Harbor. This agreement worked well for both of us.
