Ender was able to take the rag-tag army that he was assigned and turn it into the best team that battle school had ever seen. From fighting a battle every day from early on and sometimes multiple teams at once, Ender never failed to quickly adapt to the situation and figure a way out. Similarly, Ender always does the job with one hundred percent effort. Now, this does not always mean the best for his opponent. For example ender clearly makes sure that when he beats an opponent, he completely annihilates them. Ender states that “I destroy them. I make it impossible for them to ever hurt me again. I grind them and grind them until they don't exist." (Card, 238). Even in self defense, Ender went as far as killing Stilson and Bonzo without realizing what he was…

The war between the buggers and humanity has ended, yet Ender has lost all happiness. Throughout the novel, the Battle School tested Ender through a series of games. Whether the games be face-to-face or through a computer, these games have had meaning. The games have impacted Ender’s entire life. A continual theme throughout Card's novel is that games do not exist in opposition to reality. The author shows that every action has a meaning. Even when the action has been manipulated, changed, or not understood, it still has a meaning to it. In all of the games that Ender played, each one was unfair or misunderstood. In these circumstances, Ender must think about the big picture and not the small details. On top of that, Ender tends to hurt his…

In the novel Ender’s Game, the character Ender Wiggin has appeared to be aggressive, but innocent as well. Firstly, his aggressive side was shown throughout the story because whenever someone was bothering him, he retaliated by brutally hurting his opponent. For example, when Stilson and his group of friends were ganging up on Ender, he kicked Stilson to the ground and kept kicking him until he was in critical condition. (Page 7) This shows that he is a very violent person and he didn’t care about his opponent’s well-being. However, although he might have seemed aggressive, he has also shown that he is innocent by explaining that he didn’t like to hurt or fight people. (Page 21) This means that although he had hurt some people for bothering…

For example, Ender had a plan that would make Bernard, one of this launchy classmates, look like an idiot and abate his power over all the launchies, “Bernard’s attempt to be ruler of the room was now broken-only a few stayed with him now… Bernard was contained, and all the boys who had some quality were free of him. Best of all, Ender had done it without sending him to the hospital” (Card 52). To put it another way, Ender had moderately fractured Bernard’s power with the rest of the launchy group without physically hurting him. Therefore Ender helped the rest of the boys who could be someone important and improve their futures since he cared about them and how Bernard treated them. Additionally, In the battle room, the older boys were teasing Ender and his friends for trying to master difficult skills, but got mad when Shen, one of Ender’s friend, did it to them. Due to that, the older boys broke into the battle room to try and hurt them, “‘Stay there!’ He shouted at his friends, who obviously were forming up to come and rescue him… Ender grasped the shoulders of the third boy’s shirt and pulled him up sharply, butting him in the face with his helmet” (Card 115). This reveals that Ender's friends wanted to go and help him, but Ender didn't want their help and handled the situation. As a result of Ender's actions, he thought of his friends and how he didn't want them getting…

    Empathy In Ender's Game

Each time he comes in conflict with someone his answer is always violence, and each time it makes himself question if he is no better than Peter. After getting into the fight with Stilson at school, Ender realizes how he acted reflects the Peter in him, “I am just like Peter. Take my monitor away and I am just like Peter” (8). We see the same reaction again while they are launching, and Ender breaks the arm of Bernard, another launchie: “I am Peter. I’m just like him. And Ender hated himself” (33). After finding Peter’s face in the mirror looking back at him in the fantasy game, Ender reminds himself of how he killed the snake, and how it felt so much like when he had torn the ear off of a boy. It reminded him of the way he had destroyed Stilson, and of when he had broken Bernard’s arm. He believes that the game is lying, that it doesn’t know him. However, when he stops to think about it, he realizes maybe he is: “then a worse fear, that he was a killer, only better at it than Peter ever was” (118). After the destruction of the buggers, Ender realizes that he had been completely betrayed by Colonel Graff. Graff explains to him that it had to be a trick or Ender never would have done it: “We needed a commander with so much empathy that he would think like the buggers, understand them and anticipate them. […]If you were the kind of person who would do it even if you knew, you could never have understood the buggers well enough” (298). Even though they tried to convince Ender that were the ones responsible, he sees himself as a killer, as Peter. However the Hive Queen gives Ender an opportunity to redeem himself. In his essay “How it should have ended” for Ender’s World, Eric James Stone explains how important it is to Ender, that in finding a new home for the Hive Queen he is given a new sense of purpose and understanding of who he is: “In Ender’s mind,…
