Eight Hate Groups
There are eight hate groups that are active in Tennessee. These groups are: the Ku Klux Klan, White Nationalist, Black Separatist, Racist Skinheads, General Hate, Neo Confederate, Anti Muslim, and Neo Nazi. These hate groups are broken up to roughly thirty for groups across the state of Tennessee. I had to do an assignment on hate groups in Tennessee over a year ago and thought that there was a lot, but since then it has increased by around ten more hate groups locations. I am shocked that these hate groups are increasing so quickly. According to our textbook prejudice exist because of competition, ignorance, boosting self-esteem, stereotypes, and rationalizations for oppression. I think that each of these describe the existence and activity

C.P Ellis in his memoir, accounts his times as reputed member of Ku Klax Klan and through series of experiences, the change in his perception towards people of color. His prejudices against the black people came not inherently but from his childhood struggles that led to frustrations in his adult life and already present social biases against the blacks. Vincent N. Parrillo in his article “Causes of Prejudice” explains various theories of how one account for prejudices. He proposes that we can understand more about prejudice among individuals by focus¬ing on four areas of study: levels of prejudice, self-justification, personality, and frustration. In his level of prejudice, he describes 3 levels of prejudice: the cognitive level, the emotional level and the action-oriented.…

Since human beings arrived on the planet Earth, there have been few cultures that lacked the one thing which has ultimately held our species back, prejudice. Throughout history, we see how millions upon millions of people have been killed simply because one group of people believed in a different God, came from another country, or simply had a different color of skin. Fortunately, human beings hold the ability to overcome prejudice through education and dialogue between different ethnic or racial groups. Unfortunately though, human beings have often preferred to take the path towards ignorance and bigotry. Throughout her autobiography, "Coming of Age in Mississippi," Anne Moody discusses how she was introduced to the harsh reality of a culture where individuals were unwilling to live together in peace and equality.…

Prejudice and racial stereotyping are two of this country's greatest problems today. Many people in our society have tried to find ways to eliminate or at least limit these types of behavior, but have met with very limited, if any, success. Because of the complex nature of racism and racist acts, coupled with the fact the first amendment prohibits the government from limiting the publics' right to free expression and speech, the Federal government has been ineffective in eliminating racist actions that pervade our society. State governments and institutions have attempted to set up their own laws condemning such actions, but have been wholly unsuccessful.…

The hate group that I chose to research was the Anti-Muslim hate groups in the United States. After the attacks on September 11, 2001 there has been a rise in the number of Muslim hate groups. The people in these groups see Muslims as “irrational, intolerant and violent.”(SPLC) They also believe that The Muslim community is a danger to America and its people. The Muslim hate groups suspect that Muslims are trying to convert American Democracy into their own law, which in most cases is Shariah law. Their hate for Muslims may spark major conflicts in the future but could also die off in the next few years.…

There is a lot of hate crimes out there towards other races. They have occurred as long as race has been an idea in our human minds, but they fall below the social radar. As a society we try not to think too much about it. “According to FBI statistics, hate crimes have risen by over 300 percent from 1960 to 2010” ( Racism in America…

In the 21st century, the small town of Jena, segregated in rural Louisiana still demonstrates the same values of racism that were shown in To Kill a Mockingbird and Mississippi Burning. At Jena High School, white students sit under the shaded white tree, while black students sit at the worn out benches. One day in September 2006, an African American freshman sat under the “white tree”. The following day, a few white kids expressed their disapproval by hanging three nooses from the tree, a forceful reminder of lynching’s in the South. This leaves us thinking, is the small town mentality a major contribution to racism?…

Who are the victims in a hate crime? Victimization does not end with the primary person that was attacked. The Laramie Project demonstrated how the entire community, and eventually the nation, of a little town in Wyoming was affected by the death of 22 year old Matthew Shepard in October, 1998. Secondary victims, who do not bear the physical pain, but endure the after effects and emotional pain, included Matthew’s parents, Deputy Sheriff Reggie Fluty (who was called to the crime scene and tended to Matthew), and Doctor Cantway (who treated both Matthew and one of his attackers, Aaron McKinney) (Karmen, 2013). The effects of this hate crime saturated a society and called more than morals into question. Incidents like these force humanity to look at itself and criticize its core beliefs. Laramie’s motto of “Live and Let Live” applied to most…

In today's society many hate crimes are not reported to the police, though we hear them more often than before. The most reported hate crimes are based on race. Although their are many other motives of hate crime race is the predominate. A hate crime should be taken seriously because if it's not taken seriously it makes it much easier for other criminals to commit these types of crimes because the punishment isn't severe. Media since it is a large gateway of information, should take initiative to promote diversity or inform viewers that hate crimes are at an all time…

Good in the way that you can pretty much look for information about anything and watch videos, listen to music, see pictures and many more things. Hate. We all say hate all the time. For example, if you having an argument with your friend, you might say, “I hate you!” Do you mean it? No, you say it because you are mad. Also, if you are forced to do something, you might say, “I hate that.” Even worse, there are hate crimes because of someone’s color, religion or disability. The FBI statistics Report about hate crimes stated 53.6% were racial, 18.2% were religious, and 11.4% were against the disabled. These types of crimes have been going on for years.…

Prejudice has existed for as long as this country has existed. It is an ongoing issue, that we can not seem to understand. The Declaration of Independence was an important document passed in 1776, signed by fifty-six delegates, signifying everyone was equal. We are able to see the laws that were created years ago, lost the power they once held. Discrimination is real, and after so many movements, and revolutions, we have not learned how to not judge because of the color of our skin. We are constantly being labeled and stereotyped because of where we come from. In “C.P Ellis: Why I Quit The Klan”, Studs Terkel, a renown historian, sits down with C.P Ellis, a former KKK member to discuss his experience in the organization. Ellis grew up with a prejudice against black people and…
