Educational Leadership Personal Statement
I am seeking admission to Wayne State University’s Educational Leadership program. Currently, I am a middle school teacher with Melvindale-Northern Allen Park School District. My passion to work with the community and students has inspired me to pursue a master’s degree in administration. I hope to build leadership qualities that will empower me to motivate students, teachers, and parents alike to greater success.
Coming to America made me appreciate everything I did not have. For me, failure was never an option. I took advantage of everything that was given to me. I knew what It meant to have a school, certified teachers, books, clubs, and more importantly, a chance. I was given the opportunity to learn and became a professional. It is my duty to inspire others to be great and to take advantage of their chance to

Six years later, I graduated from the University of Michigan, Dearborn with a major in Social Studies and minor in History. After my first year of teaching, I discovered that I have a natural ability to build positive relationships with my students. Coaching wrestling for four years now and working as a youth director in my community have helped me make the decision to serve my community on a larger setting. I enjoy working in the classroom, however, I believe I would be a great asset working to serve the entire school. I reside in the district I work. The last five years has brought much change to our district. We are now 50% ESL. Many of our students are immigrants from Yemen. I feel it is my responsibility to help these students and families assimilate to their new environment. The challenge is great; however, the reward will be even greater. I made it and want to share my experiences with my students. My goal is to help them become productive members of society who will be civically engaged and give back positive light to their community wherever it may

The decision I made that day was certainly not easy. Part of me wanted to give up and avoid the risk of disappointment and failure, but I chose to pursue my goals despite my fear of failure that stood in my way. I realized that failure is in essence a lack of success; therefore, quitting is the ultimate failure because it precludes any chance of success. From my new perspective, quitting to avoid failure would be absurd. I would gain absolutely nothing by not trying, so I decided to improve and try out again the next year.…

In week four of our class I conducted an interview with a couple of teachers from my area (central Florida) which asked me to remain anonymous for technical reasons. I called them subject (A) and subject (B). In that interview they both opened up to me and took me through a journey of the school system in my area. One of the teachers has been teaching in this area for about 38 years and from what information I had gathered from the interview I can definitely say that she has seen it all. Teaching was her passion since her early age, she recalls playing teacher with her grandmother and aunts trying to teach them proper English since they only spoke broken English. Her family migrated to Florida from Greece when she was 6 years old and she did not speak a word of English when she started school. She recalls being so shy and since she didn’t speak any English, all she did was sitting in a corner and color all day. Up to this day she says she owes everything to her fourth grade teacher Mrs. Prim. At first (A) thought that Mrs. Prim was the meanest person in the whole world for taking away her coloring papers and crayons and forcing her in a way to learn English. (A) Admitted to me that she hated Mrs. Prim for doing that to her, but once she started learning the English language she had a change of heart. The rest as they say is history. (B) on the other hand has only been teaching for about 5 years and she loves it. She’s an E.S.L. instructor and her day consists of teaching English to kids that English is a second language. She says that she wants to helps others as someone helped her mother learn the English language many years ago and helped her…

My unique educational environment of a school has allowed me the opportunity to form close relationships with teachers and students alike, enabling me to interact with people of various backgrounds and ages. I strongly believe that communicating with colleagues and parents is the key towards student success and leading a school. I have had the opportunity to share and collaborate with teachers, parents, and the community I’ve worked in. I’ve held presentations that have provided parents with information of what our children need to master at every grade level. By doing so, I have been invited to conferences to provide others with information on Bilingual Programs and to share my ideas of Dual-Language programs in forums with other fellow educators across the state. All in all, these experiences have given me the confidence and grit I need to lead a successful and effective learning…
