Education and Schools
Name: Pamela B. Sumunod C/Y/S: BIT21
FINAL TERM PAPER
TOPIC: Education: Lack of facilities in most of schools in the Philippines
EXPERIENCE:
I never had experience having lack in facilities in my school ever since from the time I started studying because all of the schools I went into were all private. I don’t intend to be rude but the lack of facilities in schools mostly happen in public schools. Too many students with not enough classrooms are mostly the common scenario. Mostly have unequal ratio between students and their classrooms, for example, a not so spacious classroom having 50 or more students. In my community, there is this high school that has really lots of students. My friend, who was studying in that school at that time, told me that their class has almost 100 or even greater than 100 students, occupying a classroom. And he told me that those students in the back had difficulties in listening to their teacher because they were so far that was why they couldn’t manage to focus on their studies. Because of the endless increasing of number of students in that school, they are lacking in the number of their classrooms. Most of the schools in the Philippines currently face this problem. Not only classrooms, some lack appropriate comfort rooms, some don’t have libraries, and so on. Because of these, there are implications on students’ studies. They can’t focus on their studies and worst, they wouldn’t manage to learn at all. * What is God telling me in my experience?

* AS A PERSON… Most of us believe that education is the key to success. It is the most significant thing that no one can ever take away from us. It is not just a thing but a very valuable asset for us to be able to reach our dreams and to be successful in life. Not only to me, but also for everyone, most especially those children who are studying. Education is a benefactor to them, even if they are financially good but if they have education, what if one day this education will be the reason for them to be successful someday. That is the reason why education is very important. As a person, I am aware of the problems regarding the lack of the facilities in schools. Even a simple help will do. I will donate to those charities that advocate schools lacking facilities. Just from that, I will be able to help them. * AS A STUDENT… It made me realize that I am really blessed to be able to study on a well facilitated school, all thanks to my parents. They brought me to a private school. Because of that, I, as a student, must pay them back through being responsible on my studies. I am grateful enough to not ever experienced studying in a public school. When I mean public school, I mean those public schools which lacks facilities and has lots of students. * AS A DAUGHTER IN MY FAMILY… Like what I have said, I am very grateful to my parents for letting study in a well facilitated school since primary school until now. So as their sole child, I must do my best in my studies so that when I’ll graduated and then get a job, I’ll be able to pay them in return. As for those children like me who are not financially good and can only afford to study in a public school, my advice for them is that society status is not a hindrance for their right to education, they may not have a well facilitated school, but what is important is that they will still learn. * AS A CHRISTIAN… As what the commandment of God says, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Just because they are not financially good and can only afford to study in a public school doesn’t mean they deserve these problems, i.e., lack of facilities in their schools. They also deserve the same treatment as in the private schools. That is why, as fellow concern student here and also as a Christian, I must show our love to them through helping them to cope with their needs. In able to do this, I must join organizations or donate to charities that advocate public schools with lack of facilities. * AS A FILIPINO As what the sayings says, “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” If this may be true, how can we make it possible if the education process is the main problem in our country because of lacks of facilities in most of our schools. Education is a counterpart for us, students, to be successful someday. And if we are to become successful, we can really say that the hope of this country is through our hands. That is why, as a concern citizen here, I want what is best for our country. Starting from myself, I must be a responsible student. And at the same time, be a generous fellow by helping those schools through donations.

they know that education is important for everyone and they need education also they want to go college but for me is not true. Because students will think that everything will be fine in study, also they will skip class sometime. Some students they do not respect how education is value, they just know that education should be free. Public education has been an important part of our country throughout history. After the Declaration of Independence, fourteen states had their own constitutions by 1791. Seven of those states had specific provisions regarding education. Thomas Jefferson was one of the first American leaders to suggest a public school system. He believed that education should be under the control of the government, available to all people regardless of their status in society, and free from religious biases. Before the 1840s, the education system was only available to the wealthy. However, many reformers wanted all children in the United States to receive the benefits of education. Two reformers, Horace Mann and Henry Barnard created the Common School Journal, which was a newspaper that brought the issue of education out into the public. Because of their efforts, free public education at the elementary level was available for children by the end of the 19th century. Throughout the 1900s, many schools were created due to increased demand for skilled workers. As the 20th century progressed, many states began to enact legislation requiring people to go to school, and enrollment soared. That is how our public education system got to where it is today. There are still many issues regarding our public education system, such as some areas teaching better than others, and some classrooms having better materials than others. Local and Federal governments have always been involved in schools, making sure that they teach to their full potential. There are many congressional bills that have been passed, and many that are fighting to be passed. A very important bill that is out there today is the Student Bill of Rights, or H.R. 1295.…

Learning is a natural ability that is wired into many animals DNA; the way that humans should learn has been debated by the various educators because of the endless ways to teach. Teachers and parents take this matter seriously like Ralph Waldo Emerson in “From Education” and Todd Gitlin in “The Liberal Arts in an Age of Info-Glut” who created essays on education; and Billy Collins in “The History Teacher” entail for then and who wrote a poem concerned with the status of education. These people show what the importance of education is entailing what learning should and should not involve; a teacher should respect and have patience for children; a teacher should also let a child have creativity and lessons of the past.…

Furthermore, proper education is key to becoming successful and moving up in the ranks of any career people choose. Stated by the Reference website that explains the necessity for proper schooling, “Education is the key to success because it opens doors for people of all backgrounds, and it expands the human mind with knowledge. The vast amount of knowledge gained through education prepares individuals to solve problems, teach others, function at a higher level, and implement transformational ideas. Without education, one’s chances for securing a good job and ascending to a higher economic and social status are often limited”. In other words, even though the first step up the massive stairway to success is education, many steps have to follow to reach the…

CANING AS A SOLUTION By : Luqman Rohaizat (5 Omega 2009) At first thought, caning may seem like an inhumane punishment for students, who are not yet fully matured in their thinking, and are still learning along the way. “It just hurts them, physically and emotionally, without doing anything else” I hear concerned parents say. But then again, is there a more effective way to punish and control students? Moreover, nowadays there seems to be a noticeable rise in disciplinary problems involving students in schools nationwide. We need to find an explanation for this rise in disciplinary problems, in order to find the ideal solution for the problem. By my knowledge, we can clearly relate the rise in disciplinary problems with the withdrawal of caning, or any sort of physically inflicted pain, as a punishment for students. What I mean is, when students don’t get punished, they will get into more trouble in the future. Based on this, I fully agree that caning is an effective way to punish students. This is where caning can be part of the solution. Please, let me explain. Students get into trouble because it is their nature to make lots of mistakes and learn through them. Yes, they learn new and important things in life through mistakes. It is okay to make one or two mistakes once in a while, but when a student gets into trouble, or keeps repeating the same mistakes one too many times, this indicates a problem. Maybe the student does not realize that he is causing trouble, or hurting other people. For all we know he might even be enjoying causing trouble. If this student is not punished, he is certain to do more harm again, and this is not good for everybody. As a solution, caning will make the student realize that what he is doing is wrong, and that he should never make this mistake again. As you can see, caning becomes part of the long-term solution to shape a student’s thinking pattern, for the benefit of himself. Another thing to consider is that because of the…

The child with Rousseau was to be brought up in isolation and loneliness under the guidance of a single governor, without being interfered with by any outside or extraneous social influences. He spoke of three main kinds of education: that which belonged to Nature, which could well be left alone; that which belonged to things, with which the educator could not do much even if he wanted to; and the education that man could give, where the full role of the personal factor as a bipolar relation was recognized by him. When Rousseau went so far as to recognize the personal factor in this dialectically scientific manner, he became a puzzle to his followers, and they began to leave him alone. Private education thus had to part company with public education.…

“Knowledge is power” as Focault stated. Life is a struggle, sometimes you have to lose something in order to get something, but it's always your choice to consider what you want or need the most. If education improves people's life style and social environment, it also affects our lives in an undesirable way. I know education is essential in almost every aspect of our lives, but do we really want it to entirely take our place? That is, should we give priority to education only and put everything else behind? People see education from different aspects, but one thing about education that everyone agrees on is that it has done so much, socially and politically, for us. Considering all the improvements and differences that education has made, we are unable to see what it has done to us. Today we see education simply as academic success but that's not all there is about education. Being yourself, valuing your culture and identity, and remaining in family are the key issues that we should consider when thinking of getting education. The more we are trying hard to achieve academic success, the more we are starting to grow apart from our love ones and it is changing everyone in certain way. According to Jimmy Santiago Baca in, "Working in The Dark," "Only by action, by moving out into the world and confronting and challenging the obstacles, could one learn anything worth knowing." Usually we have to go out in the world in order to get education and even face lots of problems, but don't you think sometimes it becomes dilemma for us that we have to chose education over our family or family over education, because there are so few people who get education by not going to school. I am aware of the fact that not all the people have to suffer through these things because who doesn't want to get education and still remain in culture and family? But it doesn't always happen this way. Things change, people change. The way we live and where we live does affect us in some way. Sometimes you need to go far away from…

Colonial historiography. Most of the past and present teachers, book authors, and Social Studies consultants give heavier premium to the history of the colonizers in the Philippines, and not to the history of Filipinos. Mostly, this has been the case in the teaching of History subjects from the elementary to tertiary levels and will most likely perpetuate in the next generations to come. The history of the Filipino people and the colonial history of the Philippines are two different topics altogether.…
