1. Describe how information systems have changed the way businesses operate and their products and services
Nowadays, people can’t live without wireless communications such as computers and mobile hand-held computing devices. Also, it brought about a huge change in the way in which people conduct business in different parts of the world. In my opinion, there are major three ways for information system to change the business.
First, the most apparent and important thing is “time”. Wireless communications can shorten the time of the connection between managers, employees, customers and suppliers, the time decrease and the customers’ satisfaction will increase. The time of the service is the key to get success in business.
Second, online shopping & service is becoming more popular day by day. Therefore, buyers and sellers are communicating each other more closely and effectively. On the same time, customers expect goods and services to be available 24 hours. So, information system can solve the problem cause by online shopping and make it available.
Last, information from all parts of the world can collect and merged with the inventory management system of the company , the process of accepting orders and supplying the materials has become far more perfect.
2. Information systems are too important to be left to computer designers. Do you agree with the statement? Why or why not?
I don’t agree. Although computer designers understand the technology and definitely play an important role within the development and maintenance of information systems, they may not be well versed in the business or its operations. In my opinion, information system should be left to Information Managers that understand the business, the business requirements, and the goals for the information systems.
