Dual Language By Joe Levitan Summary
Joe Levitan (2017) differentiate the instruction in English and in two languages. The author worked in two different school. The first school teachers did English only instruction and a student who was fluent in Spanish struggle a lot to find his way in to a new school. He had a lot of difficulties understanding the content in English and started seeing himself as a dumb kid because his teachers geared toward teaching him to be proficient in English. The author mentioned in the article that his “linguistic abilities” in Spanish were not valued. Also, the author worked in dual- language middle school where the teachers alternate the instruction weekly between Spanish and English. The students in that school were proud of their bilingual abilities.
