Drug Addiction
She was a little girl, whose frail frame betrayed her poverty. But yet her name is Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, what a misnomer. Later I was told that all she survived on, was a single roti a day.
I needed nothing more to prove how her name was totally against the conditions in which she has to survive. Her raised collar bones, her protruding ribs, all told the story of deprivation bordering destitution.
Further she had 3 siblings, and the responsibility of bringing them up was all upon her mother…who did odd jobs to keep the stove burning…
When asked…Lakshmi told that she had no idea why her father had been jailed…but yet she knew why she and her family had to suffer ….because her father was a drug addict..!!

IN THE Cities like Patiala, Amritsar, Bathinda and Jalandhar… you can find people, locally known as “smackias”,AT bus stops, railway stations and chemist shops …selling drugs for as low as 25 rupees..!!

Obviously I can't relate to the situation that Lakshmi was in but I do understand how one second you think everything's going great, and then the next minute you have no idea what happened. I had a different quote, but then I read this book and it has become my favorite quote. This made me kind of put down my book and think about and how no matter how good the people around us are, there is always going to be someone corrupt. No matter where you live or how severe the horribleness of humanity really is. I'd like to think that if given the chance, the police officer would not look the other way, maybe customers would show up, knowing they were staring into they eyes of a child, on who’s probably here against her will, and leave. I’d like to think that in a world of so much good there is little evil. But I know it is the other way around. Hopefully when given the chance, we will choose the right…

What do we think when we know that the use of illicit drugs in America has been decreasing over the past decade? Should this be a bad thing or a good thing? Generally, people would think this is good and that our nation is certainly progressing as a whole. But to be honest, how is it possible to have this sort of decrease in a free will country such as America. The answer to this is the new era of drugs. Prescription drugs are the reason why the use of illegal drugs such as marihuana, cocaine, heroin, crack and inhalants has decreased in the last decade. This is just a start to a greater problem in other states. Bennett and Walters, journalists for the Boston Globe, state, “Heroin and other drugs in New Hampshire now kill more people than traffic accidents.” To solve this problem we have to look at both sides of the situation. On one hand using medication to help small groups of people is less effective than treating the source of the problem, yet on the other side giving addicts a safe and nurturing way towards a sober life could equate to a happier populous.…

The story based out of Herat, Afghanistan in which the Afghan Police confiscated and burned piles of drugs including raw opium, hashish and 100 bottles of alcohol. This was a major hit to the drug trade in the area because Herat is one of the three main routes used in the illicit drug trade in Afghanistan. In the article, the Herat police chief Ayoub Ansari was quoted by reporters as saying, “This demonstrates our commitment against drug trafficking. We are determined to prevent drug trafficking by all means possible” (NDTV, 2016). This shows me that there are efforts to at least make it seem as if some people actually want to diminish the amount of opium related drugs are leaving the country of…
