Dr. Josef Mengele: Holocaust Survivor

The Holocaust was a horrible time for Gypsies, Jews, the handicapped, and anyone who the Germans felt were subhuman. Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazis, wanted to exterminate everyone who didn't fit the German Aryan race of having blonde hair and blue eyes. The plan was to send everyone who was strong enough to concentration and death camps. Of those, Auschwitz concentration camp was the deadliest and the harshest. The weak would be shot on the spot, babies would be killed and anyone over 50 would also be killed in the gas chambers. Not only were the prisoners at Auschwitz murdered and worked to death they were also experimented on. Josef Mengele, a Nazi doctor who was most feared, during the time of the Holocaust.

He joined the German army and furthered his genetic research. Before he had started out with being a Nazi doctor he worked at a medical clinic in Leipzig Germany. He later became a research assistant at the institute for Heredity Biology and Racial Hygiene in 1934(Histories/biographies). While Dr.Mengele was in the German army he saved two soldiers from being under a burning tank. He was sent to Berlin Headquarters of the Nazi Party where Hitler was playing the attack on the Jews in Europe. While he was there he became Senior doctor in the women's department of Auschwitz Birkenau.The women in the camp spoke to Dr.Mengele freely because of his good looks. Josef Mengele was in charge of all the camp selections because he was so feared he gained many nicknames over the years like Beautiful Devil, Angel of Death and Jewish calendar because he never forgot a day for selection on jewish holidays. He started becoming very depressed and nervous about whether or not he was going to get caught, all three of his wife's left him and he had high blood pressure,degenerative disease and other things that made him unhealthy. Dr. Mengele died from having a stroke while swimming, he died at the age of 67.have never gone through such a traumatic experience. Dr.Mengele made the experience ten times worse because the people were being force to be lab rats.
Dr. Josef Mengele was a horrible person. He was on of the host feared Nazi doctors. His parents didn’t love him and they were never really there for him. People that grow up like that usually see the world differently. The people that were sent to Auschwitz and were experimented on by Mengele experienced the worst of humanity. He took this horrific situation and made it worse - if that was even possible. The level of his brutality was so extreme, that we should study what he did, so it will never happen
