Essay Project 2
Class Time 1:30 According to Stephen Hawking, the famous astrophysicist, "Our only chance at long term survival is not to remain on Earth but to spread into space." Mars has been called the red planet, and it is the fourth planet away from the sun. Also, Mars has been called Earth's sister because the relative similarities between them. Earth's human population is growing day after day, and the cities are expanding very fast. Also, more sources are being consumed by humans, so it is really necessary for humans to attempt to colonize Mars. One reason is that when our sun bloats up into a red giant, it will expand to consume Earth's orbit. The expansion of the sun will boil all the water on Earth. Earth will not be able to sustain life because the high temperature. Our planet will be like a ball of fire nothing can live on it. For example, Britannica, the famous online encyclopedia, says that as the sun gets closer to its death, the sun will enter its red giant phase and expand to approximately 100 times its current size, it will engulf Venus. Most of sources that our planet has, will be lost by the expansion of the sun, so the only solution that humans have, is to attempt to colonize Mars. Another reason is that due to the latest events especially the threat of North Korea to attack America using a nuclear bombs; Earth is on the edge of a third world war. The world powers have developed many nuclear weapons, and most countries that have the nuclear powers are eager to use them against each other. For example, according to CNN, the famous news channel, the world was on the edge of a nuclear war between America and Cuba because of the Cuban missile crisis in 1960s. The spread of the nuclear power can cause a massive disaster on Earth. The nuclear power can be a factor that will destroy life on Earth. Some people say that human beings do not have the ability to colonize Mars. Also, Mars is far away from Earth, and

As humans we are very curious. We have explored and conquered all around Planet Earth. It's only been a matter of time before we move onto bigger and better things. Mars may seem like it is too far away or too complicated to try and accomplish, but with the technology changing every day we are closer than ever to reach the red planet. Colonizing Mars can happen if we get water, learn how to grow food, obtain oxygen, and get the materials needed survive.…

But how could we possibly reach them, modern day space travel doesn’t even reach the moon, and we still don’t know how long humans can live in zero-gravity without permanent, adverse effects. And how might humans survive under a different sun with lashes of uncontained radiation that are common on Mars. This research will analyze the reasoning and possibilities of humanity colonizing Mars as well as the changes society might undergo having a foothold in two different planets in order to answer the questions, why do humans feel the need to colonize Mars? And how might its colonization affect our…

The idea of space colonization has fascinated the minds of generations of people on this planet and it is slowly becoming a reality. The advancements in space Technology in the past 10 years have surpassed what some thought would stay fiction. Some say we should colonize the moon, some mars and even others say planets outside of our solar system. These people bring excellent reasons for why they say what they say but currently and realistically the best option is Mars. While the atmosphere of mars is quite different than earths, having roughly only 1% of earth’s atmospheric pressure at sea level, Mars has a much thinner atmosphere which is also 96% carbon dioxide. The average temperature on earth is 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit),…

Alexander Fisher and Juniper Springs had opposing views on whether it was time to go to mars or not with their articles, The Case for Mars and Mars- A Waste of Time and Money. Both articles discussed the same topics and supported them in the same way, but with opposing opinions on the topic. The authors both included points about new technology and how it would affect the economy, whether robots can take a human’s place on Mars, and how the radiation levels could affect a human body. For example, in article one, The Case for Mars, states that technology developed during the quest could benefit humans. Fisher also argues that robots take much longer to do the same amount of work compared to humans. He also admits that the radiation is dangerous,…

Because we are planetary creatures, when most people think about space colonization they usually envision homes on Mars or perhaps Earth's moon. Colonization of those bodies is in fact much less desirable than orbital colonization, even though Mars and the Moon are the only practical solid bodies suitable for colonization in the solar system, at least for the next few centuries. Venus is far too hot. Mercury experiences extreme temperatures, as the days and nights are so long. Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus have no solid surface i.e. they have a gaseous surface. Pluto is very far away. Comets and asteroids have too little gravity for a surface colony, although some have suggested that an asteroid could be hollowed out. This is…

“It’s a fixer-upper of a planet, but we could make it work.” [Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX] The idea of colonizing Mars seems pretty far away, but consider Apollo. No one thought it could happen except NASA, and it seems like that is true for Mars One. Mars One could help humans more than just unhinging that need to explore and find new things. Colonizing Mars could help people fix dwindling resources, fix overpopulation, and escape global warming.…

    Colonization of Mars

Humans would not be able survive on planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Neptune because those planets are Gas Giants. There is no surface, the planet is made up entirely of gas and atmosphere and the cores would thus most likely be liquid. Mercury, the innermost planet in our solar system, is a terrestrial planet which means it has a hard rocky surface. And although that is true*, humans still would not be able to live on Mercury. There is no atmosphere and because Mercury’s distance is substantially closer to the Sun, temperatures are exceedingly high. Venus is the second planet from Sun and is also a terrestrial planet. The size and mass of Venus is relative to Earth in that they are similar under those characteristics. But due to Venus’ dense carbon dioxide atmosphere, living on its surface would be quite impossible. Venus also has dense sulfur dioxide clouds which makes this planet have the strongest greenhouse effect. And because of this Venus is actually hotter in temperature than Mercury. But what about Mars? Are we able to colonize and inhabit the planet Mars?…
