Disparities In High School

As I sat in a booth at Ruby Tuesday’s in Greenville with my group of close friends this past summer, I realized that my life will not always be the way it is now. In less than a year, I will be in college figuring out the world without my family and the friends I have now; although they will only be a phone call away. I will be leaving many of my younger friends to navigate their last year of high school without the guidance I wish to provide them. I will leave behind the good and the bad to grasp a better understanding of who I want to become and what I want to be. I am a mixture between sad and angry because I can’t stop time from slipping away, only able to savor the time we will spend together in the near future. The two-and-a-half-minute drive to Lily’s house could quickly become more than two hours. The late-night trips to Sonic Drive-In for a large Dr. Pepper will be less frequent and possibly nonexistent. Listening to Fergalicious will have a totally different feel because she will not be there to scream the lyrics with me. I will not be there to help Lily study after she procrastinates all week or be able to go for a middle of the night
I will struggle with being separated from my parents and grandparents. Despite our disagreements, I will miss my younger brother beyond what words can describe. He is honestly my best friend because he is understanding of my need for an opinion about which uniform to wear to my internship at Family Medicine every morning and reminds me that everything I do does not have to be perfect. I push him to do better in sports and support him every Friday night at his high school, where he is the starting Center on his football team as a Freshman. We truly balance each other out and being separated from him will be one of the hardest adjustments I will ever
