Kody’s Pond
Green
Grass on the shore
Trees blowing in the wind
Weeds in the water
Water rippling around the lily pads
Heat and Humidity
Smells of decaying plants
Quiet except for frogs and insects
Peace

My nephew, Kody is a 10 year old boy who loves all things I conceder gross. He loves all slimy reptiles, flying, buzzing insects, and most of all, smelly fish. Kody sneaks off at time for hours to his favorite spot we call Kody’s Pond. When I first saw his kingdom, all I could see was green. The tall grass along the shore line was green, the weeds lying across the water was green, and the trees blowing in the wind were green. The green of the pond had a smell of decaying plants which attacked your senses. The day was hot and humid so the stickiness of my skin felt as though the green was attaching itself to me. As I’m standing there watching Kody reign over his kingdom, I felt a peace I’ve never felt before. All was quiet except the hum of insects, chirps from the frogs, and the slight splashes of the water as it danced around the lily pads. I began to realize this is not gross, it’s beautiful and I’m thankful to my nephew for sharing his pond with me.

As I took a deep breath the green attacked my senses with the smell of fish and rotting plants. After standing there watching Kody reign over his kingdom, a peace came over me I’ve never felt before.
