One of the issues that Justice Hecht presented is that veterans aren’t getting the basic civil legal services. In other words, when servicemen and women come back home from the military, they are having a hard time finding a job, paying off debt, having their family struggling, and benefits delayed. Hecht has presented that since many veterans are facing this problem when they return home, sometimes these veterans commit suicide by struggling from economic problems. The Supreme Court requested $4 million to help provide legal aid to veterans since many veterans are facing legal problems which they cannot afford lawyers. The Texas Veterans Commission has reviewed the Court’s request and in return they provided $1.5 million for legal aid and…

On January 30, Ryan Park, a Navy veteran, walked into a Jollibee fast food location in Union County, California. Upon inquiring about a military discount, no different than many seniors do at movie theaters across the country, a woman proceeded to interrupt his conversation with the server exclaiming, “That is so rude!” She continued to question why military veterans think they are entitled to special privileges. Ryan responded, “I gave up my privileges so that people like you can have them.” The woman is so appalled by the veteran’s “entitlement” that she feels she must leave the store. She is completely oblivious to what the man has sacrificed for her, and she is clearly disconnected from this side of our world. For a veteran to be ridiculed and subjected to harassment by the public his sacrifices protected, dampens his feelings of heroism that have been rightfully earned. Similar disconnect…
Both Dr. Berk-Clark and Dr. McGuire are with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. At the St. Louis Healthcare center (Berk-Clark) as well as (McGuire) at the West Los Angeles Healthcare center. Our veterans are an important part to society. They gave their lives to protect their country every day. Though many face hard times and homelessness they are still part of society. The Department of Veteran Affairs has in place a plan to end homelessness by the end of this year. The public can lend a hand in helping to end veteran homelessness. Our veterans are falling asleep under the stars, on a bench, under a bridge, or in a tent city. Veterans are important people and our country would not be where it is without them. Even though veterans may put themselves in the situation, society and the Department…
The definition of a homeless veteran is combining being homeless and having the status of being a veteran. In 2009 President Obama and Secretary Shinseki made a commitment to end homelessness amongst veterans in 5 years. This was in collaboration with the Veterans Administration (VA). Homeless within the ranks of our veterans has been around for decades. There are many explanations why some veterans are homeless. It could be due to not receiving benefits after leaving military service, mental illness, drug and or alcohol abuse, no family or just not having a job. As you can see there are multiple reasons a veteran can become homeless. There has been study finding that homeless veterans who have experienced…
In the United States, there are more than enough resources to serve all of the people of this country, but we still have homeless citizens that are trying to survive. They have the same living conditions as of those in developing countries. As of 2003, more than 275,000 veterans were sleeping under bridges and now the amount is definitely still on a bit of a rise. There is a pretty high amount of homeless veterans for the century that we live in and an endless amount of ideal opportunities that are offered. If there is help out there for such citizens, then why is there still a rise of homeless people and veterans especially?…
