Differences In A Christmas Memory And To Kill A Mockingbird
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view. Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” - Atticus Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird. In this quote Atticus is telling his daughter, Scout how she shouldn't judge a person until she understands what they go through and to feel what it would be like to be that person. This is a lesson that is taught throughout book by Atticus that everyone should be given an opportunity, and that scout should see how other people live to be able to judge them. In a Christmas memory is a story about a boy that is called buddy that lives with his cousin whose name is not given throughout the story. These two live in a house with other family members but do not …show more content…
Another thing that these stories have in common are that both characters are poor. In a Christmas Memory this is shown in the story when buddy starts the talk about being able to buy the ingredients with this quote, “But before these Purchases can be made, there is the question of money. Neither of us has any.”. In TKAM it is shown that they are poor when Atticus is payed for his attorney services in hickory nuts, afterwards Scout asks her father “Are we poor, Atticus?’” to which he responds with “We are indeed.”. In these two stories, these two characters, Buddy and Scout, are similar in many ways as shown above. The first contrast between these two characters is that Buddy is a boy and Scout is a girl. In a Christmas Memory Buddy isn't actually named “Buddy” his real name is never given throughout the story but he is given that name by his older cousin he lives. She calls him this because when she was younger she had a friend that went by the name Buddy. In TKAM Scout is a tomboy but is still a girl. In this story Scouts gender leaves her lonely at some points, when her brother Jem and another boy who lives with his aunt and visits the town in the summer named Dill play without scout. They act out stories and Scout is given male parts like Tarzan and other male

In most cases when there are two versions of something we can find differences and similarities, such as when a book is made into a movie. An example of this is the book To Kill A Mockingbird which was made into a movie, these two versions are very different but portray the same story. The movie does a good job in presenting the main points of the book but overall the film and the novel are dissimilar more than they are alike. The three main differences are the alterations of major scenes, the absence of characters and the lack of details illustrated in the book.…

The second similarity of these two books are their strong character values. The characters in both of these believe in a certain thing and are willing to put themselves in danger to support their views. An example of this would be how Jem reacts to the jury’s conclusion. He becomes angry and believes it is completely unfair. This happens in World War Z when the family of three is moving north…

To Kill A Mockingbird has a novel and a film. The novel may have many similarities to the film, the film might be a little different, but this is what they share in similarities. In the novel and the film they both have Scout as the narrator, and it is being told from Scout’s point of view. When Atticus shot the mad dog, that was in the novel as well as the film. In the novel Boo Radley left gifts in the hole in the tree, and when his brother found out, he filled the hole with cement. In the film there was a visual of what the gifts from Boo Radley looked like, and how his brother filled the hole with cement. The themes were similar, the theme of racism, family, and maturing was given in…

They both say the same exact thing in some of the scene. This was ike when Jem invited Walter to eat dinner with them. Walter spilled gravy all over his food and Scout said something about it. For example on the book, page 32, paragraph 4, it says, “But he’s gone and drowned his dinner in syrup, i protested, He’s poured it all over-”. In the movie, after walter spilled his gravy, Scout said the same thing. This shows us how the dialogue can be the same.…

Life is full of lessons, the movie version of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is not! Harper Lee entwines these life lessons throughout her novel; however, the movie version fails to incorporate these lessons into its plot. Thus, the movie version must be deemed incomplete, as it is most certain that there are many important lessons that Jem and Scout learn throughout the novel. A few key characters who taught these lessons to the children and who will be the subject of this essay are Ms.Dubose and the morals learnt from her successful fight against morphine addiction, the role of Aunt Alexandra in front of Scout as a female role model and lastly Mr.Dolphus Raymond’s preferred associations with black people and his motives behind such actions. These points all sum up to the movie version of the novel being unquestionably incomplete as the movie portrays a scenario in which it seems that only Atticus Finch and his children are against the racist and prejudice ideas of that time. Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to enlighten the reader upon the partialness of To Kill a Mockingbird, the movie.…

In comparing characters in To Kill A Mockingbird and Christmas Memory, both are opened by young children. In TKMB a young girl named Scout is brought into the story and tells the book through her eyes, in ACM a young boy referred to as buddy is able to hook the reader into the story and read about his memory. In both stories the children have adult friends, TKMB Scout has Boo Radley, her neighbor and in ACM buddy has his older relative that he has qbonded with. In many ways these stories are very much alike sharing characters with almost the same presents. With a lot of similarities there is still a lot of differences. The first contrast would have to be that buddy in ACM is a boy and in TKMB scout is a girl, even though scout is more of a tomboy. The second contrast is in TKMB there is a lot of discrimination towards black peoples and children, but in ACM it is more of a warm feeling in the story and is loving. Even though there are a lot of similarities and a lot of differences, both stories bring unique topics to the…

This relates to the theme because in both books, the colored people were the ones isolated, till they introduced themselves to new things. Like how Junior got out of his comfort zone and introduced himself to the white people in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian By Sherman Alexie. Atticus teaches Scout how she shouldn't be a follower like the rest of the white folks in Maycomb, she should explore new things rather than sticking to the same routine like the rest of the people. As Atticus says, you never understand what a person is going through till you look at it in their point of view; you never know the feeling till you experience something yourself. This relates to the theme of segregation/discrimination directed at a person who is out of social standards because, during the time, where the book was set, there were many racial issues in the US. The blacks were considered as the lowest class, the…
