If you knew one thing and one thing only you knew that girl could skate like no tomorrow. I'm sure she's all that - straight A gold medalist skater. But something had made her stop, and I knew that only because she didn't play anymore on Roller Derby Saturdays where the whole school went down to the area to see her either compete, leisurely practice, or skate with her, depending on the Saturday. She wasn't the only one, but it seemed like it because she was the only good one. I knew all of this from, you guessed it, Santiago. "…

Somewhere hidden deep within my dusty attic is a single, prehistoric VHS tape of childhood videos. The majority of these home movies feature a toddling Taylor adorned with blush colored bows, gliding gracefully across the floor in an arabesque in a pair of matching socks. A few of my earliest childhood memories were spent skating across the crisp, clean ice. As I grew and matured throughout the years, figure skating was always a constant throughout my adolescence. Every morning I would rise before the sun did, hoping to get in a few extra hours of practice before school. I had tunnel-vision goggles and skating was my one and only view. When friends would invite me over for slumber parties and giggles, I would have to be at practice. At my most…
