Describe Your Community as If You Were Telling It to Someone Who Has Never Been There.
I live in Grayson, Kentucky. Grayson is a town of natural beauty. It rests in Carter County, between three of Kentucky’s most inspiring state parks. These beautiful parks encircle Carter County; Carter Caves State Park, Greenbo Lake, and Grayson Lake State Park. Grayson Lake State Park is made up of 1,512 acres. This area was a favorite camping area for Shawnee and Cherokee Native American. This is the place for boating, fishing, kayaking, golfing, hiking, picnicking, camping and much more.

Carter Caves State Park & Resort lies in Carter County’s most beautiful scenery. The park is open year round and campers come from all over the states to enjoy its beauty. You can choose to stay at the Lewis Caveland Lodge or one of their country cottages. They also have a campground that accommodates 89 campers including 30 tent sites with utilities. There are so many things that you can do at Carter Caves State Park & Resort. You can take part in a cave tour. There are two cave tours that the park offers, Cascade Cave and the X-Cave. There are over millions of years of nature created in these caves.

Carter Caves is also famous for their trails. If you decide not to take a tour of one of the caves, you can follow one of their marked trails and adventure in an open cave. The park also offers horseback riding, golfing, miniature golfing, fishing, boating and fine dining.

Greenbo Lake State Resort Park is located in Greenup Kentucky. Greenup Kentucky is located on the Carter County line and finishes the circle of parks that are located around Carter County. The Jesse Stuart Lodge is located at Greenbo. This lodge was named after the Poet Laureate and native of Greenup County. Greenbo offers camping, boating, fishing, trails and an outdoor amphitheatre.

Carter County also gets involved in a unique yard sale that happens every year, it is the Route 60 Yard Sale. This yard sale stretches over 40 miles on route 60 from Boyd County to Rowan

In downtown Benton on the side of “The Bell Building” a mural is painted there. Behind that mural is a story that goes all the way back to the 1400s. When Native American inhabited the area and it ends in the 1900 when trains were in their heyday a pottery was a thriving industry. The Saline River, brought people to the area and was one reason why they stayed. The Saline County Courthouse was completed in 1902, and it costed $32,000. It was also place on the national register of Historic Places in 1976. The current courthouse is the third one to be built on that same spot. Most people believe that is the most beautiful building in the county.…

Built on the banks of the Missouri river, Knottyville Country Club offers a variety of exciting, fun-filled activities for its members. The Club was established in 1944 with a nine-hole golf course and an outdoor swimming pool. Since its opening, the Club has steadily continued to expand. The Caverns of Sonora are located 8 miles west of Sonora, Texas near Interstate Highway 10. Originally known as "Mayfield's Cave" because it was located on Mayfield Ranch, local cowboys knew of this cave for many years. The cave was professionally explored in the 1950's and developed using revolutionary techniques for showing and maintaining a cave in the most natural condition possible. Claimed by many to be one of the most beautiful caves in the world, visitors often compare sections of the Caverns of Sonora to being inside of a crystal-lined geode.…

The original exploration of the caverns done by a group of four students from St. Mary’s University, Orion Knox Jr., Preston Knodell, Al Brandt and Joe Cantu led to over a mile of underground caverns being discovered. Over the next several months an additional two miles of caverns were discovered. Development of the caves into a public attraction started in 1963 and was funded by the property owner Clara Wuest and her husband Harry Heidemann. The family worked along with the original explorers of the cave to excavate the cave opening, install lights, and develop trails. During the excavation many items of archaeological significance including arrow heads, stone tools and some type of cooking device. Also discovered inside the cave was the Jawbone of a species of Black Bear that became extinct over 8,000 years ago.…

All-throughout my young childhood I have experienced camping and hiking. It is something that I loved when I was a child, and still love to this very day. From 24 mile hikes in the Grand Canyon, swimming in the pools of Havasupai falls to my favorite, hiking in Zion National Park. Zion is a marvel to behold. The park consists of huge massive canyon walls that soar to the sky. I have walked all-throughout Zion and have experienced it first hand, it is indescribable until you see it first hand. The walls are of mostly sandstone which vary in many beautiful colors. One thing that I can say, is during sunrise and sunset the canyon walls look like a glittering diamond of assorted colors glowing in the sun.. The park is considered to have some of the most elaborate canyons in the United States. Zion consists of many canyons, high Plateau and mesas. The National Park is located at the edge the Colorado Plateau. It is here that one can notice that the rock layers have been changed, eroded to what is called, “The Grand Staircase”.…

I live in Champaign, Illinois where the current population is 81,055 (as reported in 2010 in the U.S. Census). Our town has a variety of different people of different races and who may look alike, and also look very different from one another. I am African American, and there are a lot of other women in this town who are of the same race and have the same skin complexion. I have also been told plenty of times I look like someone else, and have even been mistaken for someone else. Since moving here in 1999, I have saw and went to school, and also worked with other African Americans, Asians, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, and Caucasians. I can honestly say a lot of the other races including Mexicans and Asians have a lot of the same characteristics so they do seem to favor a lot.…
