Demonic Possession: Signs, Symptoms, and Stories

Demonic Possession is held by many belief systems to be the control of an individual by a malevolent supernatural being, such as Satan or a demon, which takes over the physical and mental capabilities of a victim. This victim could be an object, animal, or human being. The being acts through the victim without the victim’s consent. A demon is considered to be an “unclean spirit” which may cause demonic possession calling for an exorcism. Entities of darkness thrive on anger, violence, depression, and negativity. A demon does not act alone when possessing an individual; they work side by side with many evil spirits such as spirits of lust, hate, destruction, suicide, revenge, anger, anxiety, desperation, death, torment, etc. “When the average person thinks of demonic possession, he typically pictures a raging lunatic who is totally out of control. But most people don’t realize is there are other types of possession, and many people with these types of possession lead seemingly normal lives” (Spielman, Types of Demonic Possession). Demonic oppression is a type of demonic possession. It is said to be a mild to severe harassment by demonic spirits which often comes as a result of doors that have been opened in an individual’s life through voluntary sin which leads to manipulation in different areas of that life by evil spirits. A complete demonic possession on the other hand is a state in which one or several demonic spirits have gained access to the body of an individual and then proceeds to takes full control over the person’s will. The demonic spirits use the body of the individual to carry out their evil intent. There can be possession of a body part. Demonic possessions of body parts normally manifest as a health problem that doctors cannot fix with medication. Something like the colon being possessed would manifest as chronic constipation or irritable bowel
