Deans Scholarship: Changing The World
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” With that being said, I feel extremely honored to receive the 2017-2018 Deans Scholarship-Business from the oldest and most prestigious public school in California. The scholarship will ease the financial pressure of tuition on myself and my family. Furthermore, allowing me to pursue my dreams of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Business Entrepreneurship and subsequently opening my own company, which creates jobs and uplifts communities out of poverty. I encourage everyone to reach for their dreams and thank the Alumni Association considerably for their support, through empowering the aspiring minds of Silicon Valley.

Throughout my four years of high school, I have consistently pushed myself beyond my limits and comfort zones in attempt to discover my place in the world. I spent most of first two years discovering who I was as an individual, ultimately manifesting into inspiration for success. I grew out of “fitting in” and decided to turn my life and aspirations towards a greater direction; on this road of discovery, I separated myself from those who valued arrogance and indifference. “Nerd Squad” is what I am a part of today, which is why I am currently confident enough to apply for the National Honors Society Scholarship. I believe I have grown into a tenacious, sympathetic, and joyous young man that the entire school has seen develop, and I am honored…

In today's world, a bachelor's degree has become the norm. I recognize that ability to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a great privilege. My family is a tremendous source of inspiration for me. In a time when financial aid was unavailable, my grandfather worked many different jobs to support himself through college. As a boy, he acquainted me with the struggles he faced to attain an education. His fierce determination was what put him through college and law school. My parents, both victims of divorce, were unable to complete their education at a university. Instead, an unexpected miracle would compel them to find work and fulfill certain responsibilities.…

SF’s mission is twofold. First, to enable students to both acquire practical entrepreneurial experience while creating a college art portfolio by designing saleable Stuyvesant seasonal clothing exclusively for students/alumni and their activities. Secondly, earmarked profits sustain a students’ needs fund as close to 50% of the student body lives at or below the NYC poverty level. While a sustainable fundraising entity had been my goal, SF has provided a realistic platform to practice what I learned in Babson College’s entrepreneurial training program.…

I have a lot of things I’d like to have differently, and i can do a cliche scholarship about change or i can share and elaborate on one of my dreams. I have a reoccurring dream where i go to the corner of a street (usually one that i drive on a lot) and enter a pet store. I walk into the pet store and sometimes it feels like i'm walking on a baggage claim belt. When i finally get into the pet store, it is closed and they throw me in one of those big trash cans because i just want to pet the fish. When i land in the trash can i start falling into a deep deep dark pit of mystery and curiosity. When I land, I land in a fishbowl as a fish. I guess I’m pretty calm about being turned into a fish. I start swimming around the bowl a find things from…

Many students graduate from college with enormous student loan debt or limit their education in an attempt to control costs. Because scholarships are free money, students can focus on their careers instead of thinking about how they will repay loans. This allows me to go into job fields that require postgraduate training or to pursue careers in public service or other areas that don’t pay high salaries. By removing financial barriers, scholarships make education and career goals easier to obtain.…
