Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time, or DST, is a very useful idea. There are many benefits of DST, but there are also some problems with it. Many people are for DST because it prevents vitamin D deficiency, conserves energy, and it helps reduce exposure to artificial lighting. Parents are all for their children being healthy. Especially when it means their kids will also be out of their hair. Parents want their kids to be healthy, and a good way for that to happen is for their kids to play outside after school. Well, without DST kids will have to come inside by six o’clock in the afternoon. That's only about an hour or two outside. But with DST, kids can be outside for closer to four hours after school and even longer in the summer. According to Text 2, DST prevents vitamin D deficiency, and the only way to prevent that is for kids to be outside in the sun more. …show more content…
DST has been around for about 100 years and it's been effective. DST really helped around World War I and II, because DST saved vital energy resources. DST is still effective with this, and it's saved thousands, even millions, of resources of the years. According to research in Text 1, during the trial period of DST it saved the energy equivalent of 10,000 barrels of oil each day. DST also helps reduce the amount of electricity we use. Since it's daylight for an hour longer in the afternoon, few to no lights have to be turned on in a house because of the natural sunlight from outside. The extra hour of sunlight in the afternoon also encourages people, especially children, to go outside more. The more time children spend outside the less they are exposed to artificial lighting.
