Pros And Cons Of Daylight Saving Time
What are the pro’s and con’s of Daylight Saving Time?
No doubt, there are supporters and critics of Daylight Saving Time.
Research has brought attention to the concerns and benefits of DST.
To begin with,”An Analysis of Daylight Saving Time” shows proof that Daylight Saving Time may be unecessary. For instance, “A 2007 study in California indicated that DST had little or no effect on energy consumption that year.” California actually found the exact opposite answer compared to the study performed in 1970. “In the 1970s studies claim DST saved about 1% per day in energy costs.” But Callifornias studies says “The researchers theorized that the energy jump was caused in part by increased use of air conditioning as a result of maximizing daylight

The most sygnificant, is the energy saving's that put into place when have DST. This is an argument that Ben Franklin had 200 years ago! Thus, Mr. Fanklin "touted the idea of DST to France back in 1784." (DST in America) Again, the argument began in the 70's; a 1% savings was recorded. Following, a cleaner air quality, Americans were not using as much electricity. Furthermore, not using the central air-conditioning,…

I totally disagree with the whole idea of Daylight saving. It was introduced to Canada about 100 years ago ago and it is now being continues as an eight month ritual. This whole idea was introduced to Canada during the World War I to save coal as it was useful in the wars. Till now the whole point of this idea is to conserve and save energy but in fact we are actually wasting energy. Studies by the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research have proven that despite its intended purpose, it is wasting energy that is meant to be saved! Losing one hour of sleep is really a huge thing for many people. It makes us less productive and worse still, productivity is unaffected when we are given an extra hour sleep several months later. After people…

In sum, this decision on ending DACA will have a huge effect on so many young people that trusted and had great hope that they will be safe and their fear of being deported will end. Now that they have been known to the law that they don’t have papers, it is not fair for them to be deported after living in the United States all their lives. It is really sad that everything they built and done to support their families can be taken away from them. I think it is really important that many people should understand that it is wrong to not say anything about what’s going to happen to these poor people that are only trying to survive in this country. Moreover, these young DACA dreamers are people that have been living around us for so many years,…

Studies have shown that students on the later start time “ had better grades than students that started with a 7:15 a.m. start time”(Erde) This right here seals the deal and should automatically prove that we need to have these times in place and we need them quick for the betterment of our school and our future. And as parents this seems like an even better answer with a more happy kid that is doing better in school because of this change. We need to get out there and make a change in our society that benefits our kids and our future generations by raising the bar and with all of the negative things that go along with these early start times it will be hard to but with this change it will be even more doable and will be…

    Daylight Savings Time

When the system was first adopted, the United States claimed that daylight savings was a way to save energy, reducing the amount of energy consumed by the public as they had less time to use energy during daylight or evening time (Source C). Although the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) stated that “the total electricity savings associated with daylight savings time amounted to about 1 percent in spring and fall” (Source C). The records from the National Bureau of Economic Research states differently as it said that no real energy-saving has been recorded from daylight savings in a study as of 2008. The study found that “daylight savings time resulted in an overall increase in residential electricity demands” (Source F). With people staying home due to having less daylight electricity is in more demand for household use. In societies today, electricity use explodes in demand due to the lack of daylight available outside. With daylight savings in use, the majority of Americans today stays home and consumes more electricity than…

If a person is seen getting robbed, beaten, or stabbed in broad daylight, then the police will surely get called. Now on the flip side if a person is robbed, beaten, or stabbed in the middle of the night, then people are not going to know about it right away. Daylight saving time comes into the equation because it is light for longer hours in a day. As noted by Source C, “The DOT [Department of Transportation] study found that violent crime…was reduced by 10 to 13 percent during periods of daylight saving time.” Criminals fear committing crimes in broad daylight for various reasons like getting caught or getting identified. People often tend to feel better in daylight versus nighttime because who honestly wants to go down a dark alley in the middle of the night. Because of these…

Conservation of energy is wonderfully demonstrated through the employment of daylight saving time. Energy consumption is lessened which greatly impacts the preservation of the environment. This is evidenced by Source B, which states that electricity usage is reduced by about one percent during each day. By DST, if less energy is being consumed, the opportunities of mankind having a safer and more presentable environment are much higher. Furthermore, DST not only aids the surroundings but also teaches people to use energy wisely. Individuals will be fully aware of the benefits that come with saving energy. Continuous application of DST provides a well preserved atmosphere.…

    Why Start School Later?

if jimmy has good grades it makes him look good and the school will look good. so there for i do believe that a later day start would great for everyone. Also i think it would benefit the teachers because then they would have more time to get stuff done and maybe it'd actually allow them to teach better which would also allow the students to learn better and again earn better grades on class work, homework, and test. but however by doing that and getting out a hour later or possibly more then that it will also give teens and kids less time outside during the day when the sun is up to get something's done and pretty much students and teachers would be living in the dark because you'd always be in school during the day. but still for better grades and more…

Dystopian novels have tried to warn us about several things. The main idea is that there will be a small group or an individual who gain so much power that the rest of the world easily surrenders to them and follow their instructions. In my opinion, it is most likely that this will happen due to a government that spirals out of control. This could be any government, but there will be a sudden change of power and the government will get much more powerful than they were before. The government can hide secrets from people to hide their gain of power until lit is too late. After government, I believe technology could be the cause of a dystopia. There is no denying that technology is becoming more and more important in our world, and this could…

For this debate I am debating why school time should stay the same. J.C.M.S middle school in Sierra Vista has a delayed start time of 9:00 a.m., and finish school at 4:00 p.m. This affects the children who are involved if afternoon sports, most time not getting out until 6:00 p.m sometimes later. If you have homework that same night after spending two hours doing a sport you might procrastinate and not do your homework at all or you will be tired and end up making mistakes that should not have been made. An earlier start time ensures an earlier release time letting sports start earlier and homework being done at an earlier time while not as exhausted from the day.…

In today’s society there have been some controversy regarding school times, most of which comes from students. There have been complaints regarding the early time school starts and wanting Westmount to start at a later time. This would be a good idea as students needing more time to sleep will have the chance to do so (especially if they studied all night). However if school starts at a later time then it will also end at a later time which causes various problems. These problems would affect students academically, socially, and emotionally. These problems wouldn’t only affect students but it would negatively impact those around them as well.…

Don't you hate waking up early in the morning? Almost every weekday, high school students are waking up around six o'clock in the morning to get ready for school. And some even earlier! It's not logical for high school classes to start at 7:50 a.m. It's too early for teenage minds to function properly. Our school should start at least an hour later than that. With the extra hour, our attendance would improve, as well as our grades and attitudes. The facts are there, so why shouldn't the hours change?…
